Was there any /vr/ point-and-click adventure game that could realistically be beaten without a guide?

The Monkey Island games.

None of the Lucas games necessitated a guide

For dumb ppl like me, it did
I think it's almost every p&c

Broken Age maybe is on the low-tier difficulty
Definitely not Machinarium

Most of them.

Fate of Atlantis had 2 routes you can breeze through. Then you have solo Indie, but that one becames easier for you when you beat the other 2.

Basically all the non-Sierra ones.

Teen Agent, a game I beat with no help when I was but an 11 year-old squirt. It's free on GoG.

One of my proudest moments in childhood was finishing Discworld (the first one) without a walkthrough of any kind. Never read the books back then, and some of the puzzles were batshit insane, but I goddamn did it.

All of them
I've beaten a long ass list of them between 94-98 onmy early teens and the only one I remember who has sperg puzzles and I had to check on a guide a couple of times was Discworld.

I remember playing King Quest 6 when I was young. Graphics and musics were amazing... but damn if they didn't design the puzzles it for a dictionnary under the frustration entry. You quickly learned that you had to save all the time and never erase an old game, because you never knew when you walked yourself into an unescapable death.

Was definitely doable without a guide... but frustrating. When I learned how it was pretty much a Sierra thing, I avoided all their other games.

>without a guide
The obvious sign of an agelet used to modern games.

Jesus dude
My copy fucked up by itself, even when I had already used the guide. Something about the time warps.
Shame Discworld 2 looks so ugly, 1 was amazing in everything except the puzzles. 2 even makes fun of how hard 1 was

Day of the Tentacle's puzzles are pretty fair

How the hell can I select the sound card that should be used in monkey island 1?

'tis true. Took me 2 years. Also, english is not my first language.

>> No.4277231

Plenty of little kid games like Putput or Freddie Fish are appropriately easy.

As for more adult ones, Myst seems beatable without a guide. Grim Fandango would've been if not for that stupid fucking windmill puzzle.

That's about all the point n click adventures I've played.

Out of these, which would you guys most recommend? Not sure which I'll want to play next.

Monkey Island
Day of the Tentacle
Riven (wasn't into Myst but I've heard this one is better)

>> No.4277250

>>4277231
No idea what Riven is like, but you should play both monkey island and day of the tentacle. Make sure to get the CD versions

Space Quest 1 has extremely simple puzzles, and the few "you need an item you forgot to pick up in an earlier area" spots are simple enough to solve by just reloading an older save and dicking around a bit more.

I have recently played through a bunch of LucasArts adventure games. I used a guide on every single one. Usually only once or twice, but it really isn't worth wondering around for hours just because you missed one thing. It doesn't add anything to the experience.

>> No.4277345

>>4277250
Don't ignore the Day of the Tentacle remaster. It works well for the games style. The monkey island special edition is trash however.

>> No.4277371

>>4276032
First monkey island. The 2nd could be, but there were some fucking stupid lolsorandumb puzzles.

Same goes for flight of the Amazon queen. Too much random bullshit. Most others were fine though.

Then I suppose you play every other game on easy?
And use cheats whenever you can?
