Hey, /vr/. I've been crazy bored lately. Recommend me one of those hidden gem RPGs or Action/Adventure games from days long past. I've played all the "top rated" and most of the "hidden gems", but I figure you guys will be able to shift me in the right direction.

JRPGs are a shitty brainlet genre played by weeabo losers with no life. Go grind at your day job, you fucking dweeb.

It might be helpful if you gave some examples.

Earthbound is the official English title for Mother 2.
Mother 1 was originally supposed to be released as Earthbound and was later unofficially published as Earthbound Zero and recently officially as Earthbound Beginnings.

How are those anyway? I've played a little of Dark Law but not enough to get a decent impression of it besides that I really wish they hadn't chopped off a third of the screen for the status bar.

I finished Dark Law but I barely remember anything from it. I remember it being pretty unconventional for a JRPG, and pretty unforgiving too, but with lots of tedium (I think random encounters were super long?). Almost nothing was explained in-game so you had to do mass trial and error to figure out what anything in town does or else look up a guide. I remember there were lots of "pixel hunt" quests where you had to go around checking everything in the area with no clues until you activate whatever it is to move the plot forward.

Sorry, that probably doesn't help very much.

Where do I get translated copies of these games? Most of the time I can find a ROM, but it's raw.

I'm specifically interested in Emerald Dragon, Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu 3, Dark Half, (any and every Fire Emblem), Romancing Saga, and Rudra no Hihou.

I'd add Terranigma, but I managed to find a hard copy of that at a gaming store in my town.

Thanks for all the suggestions in this thread. I really appreciate the ideas, the hacks, the translations, and the games. I've played nearly all of them already, but there definitely were some I hadn't, and I've made a list.

They shouldn't have shoehorned the pointless random battles. Really destroys the comfy atmosphere.
