Yeah, cycle accurate emulation uses up a lot of resources. Emulation is kind of logarithmic; as you continue to use more resources to make emulation more accurate, you get less of an apparent improvement in emulation.

That's up for you to decide. Despite what the /vr/ "purists" may tell you, there's no correct way to play retro games. Personally, I only use real hardware, some people can only use cycle-accurate emulators, and some are fine with less accurate, better performing emulators like SNES9x.

I don't know, the guys behind Nesticle and Genecyst (who iirc went on to work in the game industry) were pretty late 90's normie-tier, and I love them for it.

At any rate, I'm not bothered either. Although I will point out that while byuu's autism is his biggest strenght, it's also his biggest flaw when it comes to coding his emulator. The RetroArch and mednafen devs seem more pragmatic as coders, although he still spergs out over shit nobody cares about.

But yeah, that's irrelevant, what matters is that they have brought a lot to the scene.

The last time I ran bsnes on a P4 3.0Ghz, it lagged for Der Langrisser and Civ 1 and Simcity .Couldn't get them to run faster than an average 30fps. But that was back in 2007? Maybe byuu improved it in higan. I dunno.

Okay I redownloaded the latest bsnes I can find and higan. Looks like byuu removed all documentation or help files in the downloads for whatever autist reason. He even removed the help pages on his own website. So there's only the unofficial link above.

You're supposed to put that file in the same directory as the rom that uses it. In this case, the dsp file needs to be in the rom of Pilotwings (and also in another one if it also needs that chip). You could try to get an older version that doesn't need those files to play them but in that case you might as well just use something different like Snes9X or GT instead.

Don't forget to do the same if your game needs a special chip like the Cx4 or the SA-1 chip.
