I just beat pic related on easy mode in my first try since I never got past the beach stage on normal. I didn't use any continues and had 4 lives left when I beat Mr. X. How much harder is normal mode compared to this?

The real game is in Mania mode which is unlockable by a code. The Bosses have like, completely new patterns and set ups.

Blaze is best in 1, but not by much.

Blaze is worst in 2 by a lot.

Blaze is second best in 3. Zan is #1. Not counting secret or ubered characters.

I don't think I've ever played Easy, but you're definitely ready for Normal and Hard. Hardest may take a bit more time. Mania is built off Hardest but changes the mechanics enough that it's ludicrous. You'll need 9 lives going in. I can beat Hardest with all 4 characters without using a continue (I need 5 lives for anyone that isn't Skate as I play him the most), but I've only beaten Mania once.

Mania is the pinnacle. The 7th stage with the pumping music in the elevator is absolute madness. There's no strategy there, you've just got to fucking do it. It's awesome.

Normal is fine. Just don't play with Max yet, because you really need to get used to his style.
Axel is Axel, grand uuupa spammer. Blaze is okay in single and good in a 2p when someone picks Axel or is good with Max. Skate is a speed beast, definitely not for everyone
