What's the best famiclone out today? I'm interested in buying a Dendy, but they're all ridiculously priced. I need something that can play Japanese carts. Suggestions?

>> No.424226

Why not just get a legit famicom off ebay? They aren't expensive

Well, if I could find a famiclone that can play multiple carts, that would be even better than buying the original. I'm not opposed to buying a famicom, though. I'm just starting to collect japanese carts.

Can look into a Retrode then.
There's adapter carts so you can play more than just SNES and Genesis too. Sadly though none for Famicom or NES carts, but I'm sure it can be easy to make.

Though doesn't the US Toploader play Japanese carts? If it doesn't out of the box, there are some first-print NES games that were just the Japanese carts with a pin converter attached.

Better for you to buy real famicom. It's more cheap, have better sound and clear video output without bugs. Also there are numerous bootlegs of dendy. I myself have red dendy junior without replaceable gamepads just like early editions of famicom. Only one free slot for lightgun.

>> No.424571

the cheaper alternative.

Even with Gyromite you're still more likely to end up without a converter since everyone and their grandma knows about this trick and has destroyed a good portion of the games already. These things aren't complicated there's at least 20 sellers on ebay every day selling them we don't need to gut games for them anymore

Looks pretty cool to me, though it is a tad bit expensive. If I didn't have other things relating to retro gaming I didn't want to buy, I'd probably pick one up.

I got lucky and found one in a box at a thrift store for $10. It's the case of a PS1, with SNES controllers and a lightgun similar to >>426501. The cords are all extremely short and the thing feels like it will crumble if I sneeze on it. And it plays Famicom games. So, yay. I get to play my Digital Devil Story.
