The 99/4A could run circles around the C64 in many ways. But where it really excelled was in emptying your wallet. Commercially it was the completely wrong thing at the completely wrong time. It was still a great machine though, aside from the 8 bit bus which ensured it would be a failure before it was launched.

The 99/4a isn't a game system, it was the family computer that my parents and sister also used. My dad actually sold computers in the 80s so he brought home several that we tried out (never a commodore though for some reason) and they decided the 99/4a was the best price vs productivity for us to own. I got familiar with Apple II at school and PC when I'd go into work with him but PC was out of our budget until like 1990 when we got an XT clone. It's worth it, it has a pretty small library and a lot of it is educational games but the original games and a handful of really quality arcade ports make it worth it for sure. Especially since the computer itself can usually be found for about 20-30 bucks.

How does star trek stack up to versions on other machines? I love the idea of playing it with voice but I'm used to the atari 8-bit port and the gameplay on the 99 version doesn't seem quite as flashy or involved. I love that game though, I'm sure it's worth it just for the voice.
