Remember them?

What are your favorite titles? Any memories?

>> No.4222142

Spy Fox was always my favorite

>> No.4222412

When I was little my aunt gave us the first Pajama Sam point-and-click. I thought it was really fun. I was impressed that there was no HUD (except when you checked your inventory), and I thought it was like playing a cartoon. I had fun playing it with my sisters.

>> No.4222447

Comfiest games ever. The scratchy highly compressed sound only makes it more dreamy somehow.

I remember seeing ads for Spy Fox and Pajama Sam in Disney Adventures magazine as a kid. I thought they looked so cool and always wanted to play them, but my family didn't have a computer at the time. I finally played a couple of them a few years ago and they were actually really solid games.

Remember that the guy who founded this company was the guy who essentially did all the major work on Maniac mansion and SCUMM, too bad Schaffer would just take all the credit

a lot of those games had a lot more replay value compared to the bigger adventure games, surprisingly. even if it were just adventure games for kids. I remember Freddy Fish and Pyjama Sam had games that changes to different puzzles each run so they won't stay the same as the last time you played

>> No.4223759

Grown man in his 30s who wants to try out these games aimed to 5 year olds here. My download of ScummVM collection that includes these games (and shitload of other adventure games I have missed out) should be about finished now. Which one should I start out with? Do these games have anything that one can miss out if playing them out of order? Are there any stinkers one should avoid?

>> No.4223764

>play the backyard sports games
>too easy on easy
>too hard on medium
>balanced on hard

Am I the only one who experienced this with their games?

>> No.4223765

Never played Putt Putt, but the Pajama Sam and Spy Fox games were always childhood favorites of mine. Played the shit outta the Backyard Sports games, too.

>>4223759
I'd start with the Pajama Sam and Spy Fox games (go figure I'd say that considering what I said above, right?) Just know that two of the Spy Fox games, Hold That Mustard and Cheese Chase, aren't actually adventure games; they're arcade-y minigames.

>> No.4224037

>>4222142
Spy Fox was my favorite too. Mostly the 2nd one because it was the first one I got. They're still really charming games.

Pajama Sam 1 is the best of all the HE games, that setting is crazy good and memorable. I loved the absolute shit out of it as a kid, ten times more then any of the others. The others are all still good though.

>> No.4224867

Pajama Sam I feel is the token Humongous character. I'd start there. Spy Fox games are a slight bit more challenging and complicated (they all have a secret, good ending you need to look out for - if you don't get that one then the villain gets away). Putt-Putt on the other hand was aimed at even younger kids and is a bit more simple. Freddi Fish was the series with the most titles. There's also some older one about some Bear that I never played.

So I'd go with Pajama Sam first.

Surprised these guys went belly-up, they had a pretty big stranglehold on the kid PC market and all my friends and the local schools had their games.

Also found it really cool that the creator of Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, and SCUMM founded this company and ran it.

I had putt putt goes to the moon, but i never played Spy Fox, freddy fish, pajama sam and the rest

Should i even bother trying them or wait for my kids to be old enough to play them?

>> No.4224904

Used to Borrow PC games from my rich neighbor as a kid. Pretty much all he had was Humongous games. I played Putt Putt, Pajama Sam, and Freddi Fish. I remember playing the shit out of trials for Spy Fox and the Backyard Sports games but never got to play the full versions.

>> No.4225347

So Spy Fox keeps his stuff in the pockets of his coat and Putt-Putt being a car naturally has places to store things he finds.

Where exactly does Freddi Fish keep a book, pile of sea urchins and a diving helmet 3 times bigger than herself?

>> No.4225357

where do you think she keeps it?

Try one or two. They're short enough, and I think they're also super cheap on Steam. I played through one of the Freddi Fish games with my gf a few weeks ago, took only like one or two hours.

Fun, and good memories as a child, but as an adult they probably won't keep your attention for that long.

>> No.4225372

I fucking loved these games as a kid. My mom bought a 3 pack at Costco with the first pajama Sam putt putt and freddi fish in it and I eventually played most of their games. Eventually sold them all to get ps1 games. I was recently able to find the Mac we had that I played these on for $3 at goodwill because they thought it was a crt monitor. Haven't been able to track down the games yet though

1st-2nd gen iMacs pop up at goodwills all the time. They sold millions, they're basically worthless and only good for running OS 9 (which they do quite well).

Yeah that's why it's spelled with an I, like Tammi.

It's a very subtle pun, naming a fish after a hooker.

>> No.4225563

I played a lot of the "arcade" ones, Sockworks, Cheese Chase, Maze Madness. etc. Dog on a stick was pretty fun.

I spent a good amount of time playing Cheese Chase.

Honestly, my most vivid memory is one from a game I've forgotten. It was one of the putt-putts, and there was this bar you could go into which had a little mini-game where you played this bear flying a plane and you had to hit balloons to get more fuel to reach the end of the stage and avoid obstacles.

I could beat all the putt putts, but I could never beat the stupid mini-game as a kid, and now I don't even remember which game it was to try again.

>>4224083
I really liked this one too.
