Final fantasy XLIII was amazing. The advancements they made from the PS10 (psx lol) made it shine compared to XLII. Everyone always raves about the job system of XLII, but the graphics in XLIII were just astounding. FF Tactics III was also incredible. Ogre Battle 27 is still shit and always will be.

Also, that has more to do with developers, rather than the system itself. Ninja Warriors Again on SNES doesn't have problem handling more than 4 or 5 enemy sprites at the same time, same with shooters like Parodius.
Oh and Gundam Endless Duel? Good luck finding a game with suck big sprites and 0 slowdown on the Mega Drive.

Of course I owned both consoles as a kid. I rented a lot of games for both systems and it was always fun discovering the differences between games. Hence how I knew that Robocop Vs Terminator was better on the Sega Genesis because I rented both versions awhile back. If I didn't own both, then how come I enjoy the SNES version of Batman Returns way more than it's Sega Genesis counterpart? The answer is simple...I rented both versions. The beat 'em up style Batman Returns instantly trumps the platformer Batman Returns. Besides, I had to share both systems with my brothers, luckily we had two separate TV's in our room that made it possible to play both SNES and Sega Genesis at the same time. So it doesn't matter if I can "prove it" or not, I simply speak the truth.

As I mentioned, my experience was among the "smart" kids only, but pokemon was pretty generally popular in my age group around that time. Ironically I was never into pokemon after the GB/GBC games at all, nor was I into Smash (which was even more popular at my HS), but I do have a lot of fond memories of pulling my laptop out between classes, passing around a couple controllers, and starting up randomly chosen retro games in emulators. Goldeneye, Power Stone 2, Mortal Kombat, and Saturn Bomberman were some of the best for those situations.

Well based on 90s stereotypes I can believe that, but a decade later I always found it amusing how inaccurate the 80s and 90s pop-culture depictions of what school is like turned out to be. Kids getting shoved into lockers and that kind of thing. Middle school (aka jr high school) was definitely the worst for me socially, and it was nowhere near as bad as movies from the decade prior made it out to be. The worst I had to deal with was a dim-witted boy with a girl's name who tried to make fun of me until I pointed out said name. We played it like we were bullying each other but we were basically friends.

I carried a fucking briefcase in middle school, that's how much of nerd I was. According to the stereotypes I should've been crucified by "jocks" or whoever. Instead I got to do tech support with the cool IT staff three periods a week.

They had a system in place for that, keeping the troubled kids in line, there was even a private school they would attend to before being released into public schools, depending on how well they behaved themselves. I would know because I use to get into a lot of fights, which put me there in the first place. But it worked. Managed to get out of there before high school. Managed to get a new girlfriend within a few days attending that high school.

Not that anon but you're really grasping at straws when a solid 50% of snes games had issues with slowdown at some point or another during the entirety of the game. Meanwhile the genesis has few cases of slowdown. Overall I have more fun and prefer the snes more but it still has its problems. The real issue with snes vs genesis is that the quality of a genesis is pretty dependent on what board revision it has, some are absolute shit, and some end up looking and sounding incredible.

I would say the NES was pretty much the PS1 of its generation. Mainly because it had a fuckton of games, many good ones, many shitty ones. A lot of experimenting.

Genesis was pretty good in the sound department but I think some titles tried a bit too hard with the graphics, it was pretty "technical" and they really advertised that. And all this thing about perhaps putting a little bit more realism, blood and such on games, "this console it's not just for kids!" kinda thing.

SNES had inferior sound but a pretty good library I must say, and a shitton of gems left in Japan unfortunately. Specially JRPGs, and some of the big, big popular ones were left out of Europe too. It was more traditional though, seemed to have a library more focused on complex titles and perfection rather than experimenting.

The PS1 did the opposite in my opinion. It had a fuckton of titles and third party support up the wazoo, many "experimental" titles, specially with 3D getting all popular and shit. But somehow it also managed to leave many, many good titles in Japan as well.

I dunno about that man, if you are 35 you are way too old to have been playing pokemon in grade school. Pokemon R/B/Y were hugely popular when I was in 1st grade, and gen 2 picked up and continued the hype. There was a bit more of a gap before gen 3, which is where I left the party, and by then it wasn't nearly as popular in my age group anyway. I actually only got into pokemon in the first place because all the other kids at school were obsessed with it and wouldn't talk about anything else.

But in any case "nerd cool" started to hit right around the same time everyone realized that all new billionaires would be tech geeks. So if you went to high school in the 90s (which is really more than ten years before my time) I can believe it was like the movies, but by 2004 or so I think my experience would have been normal.
