Name any video game from the Atari 2600 up to the PS1 with a vs. mode. Any number of players. I will make this into a spreadsheet, and use this for a competition.

Quality does not matter. Only competition.

I think Combat was a free cartridge with some 2600s.

I know. And there's no good list. So I'm making one, which will be publicly available. Each new thread I'll post the spreadsheet in the OP, people can fill in the blanks. Should be a while before people start getting stumped, and then it'll become a matter of seeing if the obscure game you know about is on there.

That's an incredibly autistic thing to do. The list will become so huge, it'll practically be useless unless you give it search functionality for specific aspects.

Might as well make it a more complete databank with additional games other than "has vs mode"-games.

It's simply not worth it.

Also, what about all those 2nd and 3rd Gen games that "two player"-modes that were actually just alternating single player with a (sometimes only implied) competition for a highscore? Do these even count?

What are your criteria for inclusion?

>> No.4217292

>>4217271

It's a spreadsheet, so you can filter and sort it any way you like, including by system, title, genre and number of players. And it's useful. These sorts of things never exist until someone takes the time to do them.

>> No.4217295

>>4217283

Only direct head-to-head games count. In games where alternating turns are taken, it must be explicitly competitive. Like some of the older Olympic Sports games, for example.

Basically, I've wanted an easy to reference list like this on multiple occasions (setting up game competitions with friends, etc) and decided to just start putting one together.

Wow, OK. That's a damn lot of work for something only relatively few people will ever actually use, but if you feel it needs to be done, go ahead.

It's definitely doable, but don't underestimate how long it will take if your list is to be anywhere near "complete". We'd be needing about 10 Threads reaching the bump limit and disappearing to barely even scratch the surface, so I hope this is not your primary source of information.

Not at all. But hey, we love old video games, and I've nothing but time. Doesn't matter to me if it takes months or even years. I'm not really concerned with an absolutely, 100% complete list. Just as complete as I can make it.

My hope is that platform/genre enthusiasts will help fill in the more obscure gaps, and the more casually interested will just help with broad swaths.

As for its uses, since it's a spreadsheet, people can use it to build databases in apps and on web pages. I know I'd love to have an app that would spit out a random vs. game for me and my friends to compete in.

There are already very comprehensive lists on this. Obviously quality did not matter when you started this thread.

>> No.4219070

Feel free to link them. Countless lists available for multiplayer games, all of which mix in co-op. The various public databases list number of players, but don't distinguish whether it's co-op or head-to-head. There are some specialist lists (fighting, racing, etc) but those are just starting points.
