I recently got used model 1 Mega CD, abd caps were just as bad as people usually say.
PC Engine Duo I got before was mostly fine, except for noisy sound. Replacing caps and volume pot helped.

These two consoles are famous for their bad caps.

At last retro game collectors can recreate nearly the same gaming experience with emulators, flashcards or even repro cartrigdes.

I´m collecting vintage toys. Now think again and try to fix a Malaysian He-Man figure or yellowed vintage Star Wars items. That is the stuff I have to deal with.

What's unique about Malaysian MOTU figures? Are they more fragile or hard to fix? I know the MOTC line had rubber parts connecting the hips together that could deteriorate, but I assumed that was common among all the figures in the line.

I feel you about vintage toys though. I'm afraid of getting certain vintage Chogokins for fear of GPS.

The vintage Malaysia figures often have the issue with deteroiating plastic that results in the spots seen in pic related. They used some special kind of material for these toys. Many other figures made in Malaysia have this, too (Clamp Champ and King Randor are also notorious).

There are many other issues as well.
- yellowed blisters on MOC figures
- Figures loosing their legs. Even MOC figures loosing their legs inside the package... thus making high value figures pretty much uncollectable (that´s a nightmare!)
- loose figures getting dark marks near the pants ("crotch rot") --> pic related
- Rubber parts turning to bits and pieces (e.g. the dragon puppet of the "Fright Zone" or the wheel rubberbands of the Attak Trak.
- various discolorations on some figures (purple boots on Two Bad or Roboto, green hands on Extendar).
- Electric motors that stop working.
- there is also yellowing on He-Man figures which sometimes can be (temporarily) fixed with H2O2.

There are fixes for some of those problems and by now I´m pretty good at fixing my items but overall it´s getting annoying since that stuff is getting older and older.

actually /toy/ doesn´t have that much content on vintage toy collecting as I would appreciate. Most of the time they are discussing modern stuff and collectibles.

For information I watch youtube channels or I visit sites that are dedicated to special toylines. We also have very specialized sites for certain topics like replacement stickers and so on.

What keeps me collecting, is that it can be very statisfying to restore some items. The two top pics in pic related show a lot that I bought recently very cheap. Dusty stuff. The lower pics show some stuff after I cleaned and fixed it. Sold some of it and kept the rare parts.

Very cool. I do the same with old furniture but never considered tackling toys, despite my appreciation for the 80's/early 90's lineups. That shark-tank-boat is awesome.

On topic: Realistically your disks shouldn't rot within your lifetime if they're stored correctly.
