Jesus
Alys can blush
I've beaten PSIV once as a kid and made it through most of the game a bunch of times sense, but I have never noticed the blush until just a few days ago

Player characters dying is a fetish of mine. Are there any other retro games where playable characters die permanently in the plot?

I hear you can save Nei in the non-retro PS2 port

Could I interest you in a RPG in which depending upon how well you do in the battle the main character may or may not die due to your success in battle?

Yup. You need save data from PSI and do a bunch of totally unrelated events and then you just revive her like normal.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the change. In the original, she dies even if you beat Neifirst with her.

I think FFII was the first JRPG to have playable characters die. PSII was the first that was really emotional, though.

I've never played the phantasy star games. I tried playing 3 but it was... pretty bad; not to insult anyone who enjoys it though! Or was this like a black sheep?
My experience i guess was expecting something more science ficiton-y and the dialogue was pretty laughable. Like i felt like i went into a driveby jrpg plot there when the princess gets kidnapped by the evil demons then you get thrown in jail.
Then i guess the next objective was to ... no idea. It felt like a really awkward game.

>Or was this like a black sheep?
Yes. Regardless of the quality of the game it was a poor choice if you want to get some sci fi happening. The first two games are semi-utopian sci-fi from the get go while PS4 is sort of post apocolyptic.

I recommend you play 4 if you felt 3 was directionless, the first 3 are very oldschool styled RPGs whereas 4 is pretty easymode, has fantastic storytelling that puts contemporary Final Fantasy to shame and is pretty much the best RPG ever. Why aren't you playing it yet?

>> No.419810

>>419796
4? Okay, i'll give it a shot. I just can't do super old school rpgs anymore i guess. Which is funny because i remember going through dragon warrior 1 entirely, though this was years ago.

Ha ha ha ! The final dungeon in PSIV is more linear than Final Fantasy 13!! Its fun to observe the slow and steady casualization of games, the process began much earlier than most people think.

But that's because the advanced technologies of PSII's time were lost with the destruction of Palma and Mother Brain

you couldnt build something like the dams or biosystems lab in PSIV's Mota, the technologies simply didnt exist anymore

Also dont forget the original PSII came with a beautiful, fully illustrated overworld map and strategy guide that showed exactly where to go in the dungeons and where to find all the items

>> No.429045

My only complaint is that the people of the Algol star system lost the ability of thinking up names that are longer or shorter than 4 letters.

I haven't played this game for a while after I encountered the three witches in the Air Castle and they beat the shit outta me, went back grinding, and the beat the shit outta me again I fucking hate grinding but I guess I'll have to do that some more
how far I am into the game?

>> No.433936

>>433882

You're like a little more than halfway really. For those witches, have a Macro of Chaz with Crosscut, Rune with Efess, Rika with DoubleSlash, Wren with BurstRoc and Kyra have like Warla or Hewn. Then heal when necessary. It'll also be a good idea to have Rika use Deban one round, have Wren use Barrier, and have Kyra use Warla. Using Crosscut+Effes is the key though to use GrandCross and it does like 700 damage to each witch

>> No.433963

>>433882
You shouldn't have to grind at all in PSIV. Don't use multitarget spells and use buffs.
