Short, linear, easy.
FF6 is better in every way.

CT is not in the top ten games of all time.
CT is not even in the top ten SNES games.
CT is not even in the top ten SNES RPGs.
CT is maybe able to reach #10 rank in SNES regular RPGs (not action, tactics, or dungeon crawler RPG).

I think it's a bit unfair to say a remake of a game is the rpg on the system. Still, the DQIII remake is a phenomenal game. Personally I have to say either Dragon Quest V or Earthbound, but that's just me. Metal Max Returns is also great but also a remake.

>Short
If you get more than 20 hours out of a game it's worth it. 15 hours is even fair.

Getting ending 1 or 2 on a blind run takes longer than that and getting all the endings gives you plenty of replay value

>>4172679
>linear
Open world is a meme. Plus you can jump to different eras at the end of time anyway

>>4172679
>easy
All RPGs are easy when you level up high enough. Grinded a bit in early bloodborne and tore through the rest of the game

>> No.4173371

FFVI and Chrono Trigger are mainstream and overrated as fuck but they're both very good when you look past that. People love to shit all over Chrono to look cool and smart not realizing it makes them seem like obnoxious pedants.

That said I think DQV is probably the best one. Like FFVI it's a good balance between gameplay and story, but DQV's combat is better balanced than FF's. Chrono's battle system was ambitious but didn't have the refinement that DQ and FF had over so many games by that point.

If there are people who have arguments for other beloved ones like Secret of Mana, Star Ocean, Romancing Saga, etc. I'd like to hear them.

I played Secret of Mana before any of the turn based games. When i finally did play games like FFVI, i found the battle systems odd an detached in a way, like I was no longer controlling my character

It's an action RPG, they tend to not be included in "pure" RPG lists.

>>4172867
It would be, it's just that the story is so fucking stupid it brings down the game. But the post game content (ie Ancient Cave gift mode) is awesome and it is probably one of the best RPGs from a pure gameplay perspective... but what makes it awesome is its rogue-like mode, not the RPG gameplay itself.
