My earliest Video Game memories are my dad showing me how to play Doom while my mom unenthusiastically pretended to care about how violent it was, and my older brother letting me play his Final Fantasy 1 file for a little bit which meant he trusted me enough not to ruin his save file, so it was a big deal for me.

First game that I owned was Vectorman, and my first console was an SNES Jr.

Crazy Train for MSX. It really wasn't a good game, but there were no such things as gaming magazines or reviews back then. Not in my country, anyway.

It took a few more games before I really got into gaming. Manic Miner, Bubble Bobble, Elite, Knight Tyme, Knight Lore, Jack the Nipper, Head over Heels and Jet Set Willy were among my first favorites.

The fact we can have such large gaps in age and still have intelligent discussion about classic gaming is what makes this board great though. Oftentimes some of the older guys inform younger guys about stuff they don't know, and younger guys will provide a civil, unbiased perspective on games before their time, usually with positive outcome.

First game I played?

Fuck if I know. I have very early memories of both Super Mario Bros. and Link to the Past, but I was playing games with my cousin as long as I can remember.

The first game that I personally owned was Link's Awakening for the Gameboy. Got the bundle with it for my sixth birthday, and to this day it's one of my favorite games. Until that point, I had only played with my cousin or on my dad's Apple II and Gameboy.

1996 here
When I was younger I wanted a playstation 2. My neighbors had one and I went over everyday to play ratchet and clank. But I never owned a video game. When I was about 6-7 my dad finally had enough of my complaining about being video gameless, went to the garage, dug around in the boxes for an hour or two, plopped a sega genesis with sonic and a Mickey Mouse game I can't remember the title of. I was pissed because that console "sucked" and I wanted the PS2 but I played sonic the hedge hog all the way through multiple times. I am so greatful for my dark give me the sega now because I was cultured if you will with video games. I still have my sega with a small collection and a small collection of NES games. Just got a 64 two weeks ago. /vr/ has been awesome because its an amazing place were I can discuss my love for retro games with people of all ages groups.
