What retro game are you playing right now, /vr/?

I'm neck deep in a replay of Super Metroid, just made it to Maridia and decided to take a break for uni work. I really love the hell out of this game.

>> No.415953

As a sidenote, I've lost track of the sequence of the game so badly that I accidentally sequence break every three seconds. I keep realizing and feeling both good and bad about myself at the same time.

>> No.415979

I'm playing Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I played it for like 7 hours yesterday.

>> No.416001

I finally got around to starting the original Fallout and it's kind of daunting.
I've only ever played 3 and NV before, so it seems to weird and alien to me.
Some things are the same, but you get my point.

I'm not saying anything about quality here, either.

>> No.416057

I was playing Donkey Kong Land this last weekend, but I've been too busy to really play anything the last couple of days.

I kind of want to play all the Classic series Mega Man games in a row, but I'm very leery of 7 and 8. Should I just skip them?

It's funny you mention this! I actually have seen all those games played through like 4 times, having even done it on a stream once myself, at least partially.

But my advice is definitely skip 8, that game is terrible, but play 7. It's kind of wonky but it has its own charms and excellent sprites.

>> No.416183

I'm playing through the Mega Man games because I never had the chance to play them as a kid, starting with the first one.

Just found out you have to use rolling cutter on everything if you want to even have a chance of beating elecman's stage. Had to look that up on a walkthrough after not being able to get past goddamned fourth screen.

Mystic Quest has some really good music. The battles are very quick. There are no random battles, the enemy sprites are on screen and don't move and you start a battle if you collide with one. but many battles are necessary to complete a dungeon.

I like lighthearted RPGs, where they aren't full of drama and your favorite characters dying. Mystic Quest basically feels a lot like a much shorter Lufia 1.

I like how the Mystic Quest story ties in to the story of the crystals- the crystal storyline just kind of disappeared after FF6.

>> No.417126

>>417079

I don't think they really did disappear, just readapted.

FFV was pretty much the last FF to make special emphasis on elemental crystals, and these here provided an option for your character to grow.

In FFVI you had magicite, which were basically Espers in stone/crystallized form, which allowed you to learn magic from.

FFVII had materia, which did jackshit if you didn't bother in equipping it, while your entire party's abilities stemmed from the use of GF in FF8VIII. But essentially, all these changes stem from elemental crystal, so they kinda live on in a different way.
