4149848 No.4149848 [Reply] [Original]

DID YOU KNOW
The famous Earth logo that also serves as an "O" in the title, is a vectorized version of the famous "Blue Marble" photo, allegedly the first picture of our planet taken by a human being. The original picture showed a picture of earth with with the South Pole on top, but NASA flipped it upside-down when they published the picture, simply due to North bias (and because human rationale would expect North to be up, and South to be down)
So basically, the "upside down" Earth on the Mother logo has the original Blue Marble in it, the one that was actually flipped over was the officially published one.

Mother thread.

>The Blue Marble was not the first clear image taken of an illuminated face of the Earth, since similar shots from the ATS-3 satellite had already been made as early as 1967.

"The Blue Marble" is neither the first picture of earth from space, nor is it the first one to show the earth as a whole circle. If you're referring to the "taken by a human being" aspect, that's also false, Humans have taken handmade shots of earth all through the Mercury and Gemini programs.

By 1997, Anime was already pretty popular in the west.
In 1990, other than stuff like Mazinger, Robotech or older classic stuff like Astro Boy, anime wasn't really that big, Dragon Ball was still a Japan-only thing in 1990.
Also, even though Nintendo themselves published Dragon Warrior 1-4 in North America, their marketing campaign wasn't as big as the one Sony did for FFVII. Also FMVs.

I don't think that little bit is important in what OP is trying to convey, which is that the original picture has the south pole on the upper part, so the Mother logo has the original Blue Marble, and the officially published one is a flipped picture of it.
But what do you know, on the Mother ending, Earth is now normal, with south pole on the bottom.
Did the dragon made Earth flip upside down with his awakening?

Did anyone else think Mother 3 was kinda shitty? I wanted to like it but I just couldn't get into it like the first 2.

The music isn't as good, which is a real shame because of the whole combo mechanic with the battle system.

It didn't have that same small-town Japmerica feel, Nowhere Islands seemed more like an appropriate setting for a Pokemon or Digimon game. I also didn't like the chapter structure, which I think was kind of a cop-out, since the whole narrative structure of the first 2 games is built around talking to NPCs to figure out what to do and where to go next.

I didn't really like any of the protags except maybe Duster. The NPCs weren't very interesting either. Dialogs just seemed more annoying than funny and weird. They really should've kept with the Kids vs. the World of Adults theme instead of the Luddite Proles vs. the Industrialist Pigmen. At first I thought it was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek joke about playing video games, but after a while it felt like the message was sincere.

It didn't? Tazmily village feels like a very comfy town, and when time passes and it becomes more "modern", it feels like Onett.
I also think the music is fantastic, Shogo Sakai did a really good job, I wasn't expecting to like the soundtrack of Mother 3 as much as I did.

Nowhere Islands seemed more like an Okinawan Australia or New Zealand, what with all the strange and unique animals roaming the land. I also thought "Tazmily" was supposed to be a reference to Tazmania.

Flint also struck me as more of a Crocodile Dundee type than a traditional gunslinging cowboy.
