Vandal Hearts appreciation

Just played Vandal Hearts for the first time. I'm pretty blown away. Getting a distinct Shining Force vibe. Old school SRPG/TRPG goodness. Kill animation blood is about to send my sides into orbit.

Any anons have warm feelings or Vandal Hearts stories?

I prefer VH to Shining Force and VH2. I discovered this game in 2010 and still holds up pretty well.
Egaging combat and fun animations.

The computer cheats.

That's mission 2-1 of the first game. It's really not that hard if you don't care about killing the townsfolk. Of course, that takes all the strategy out of the mission.

What I didn't like about this was the lack of tactics. You never got to select which units to bring and only a few have any meaningful choices about how they develop.

The one novelity it had as an srpg was extremely large area of effect spells that could hit half the enemies on the map.

it might have been a really big AoE but only enemies and vandalier gets the spell that just shoots lasers at everything

The Wizards get Salamander, which hits a large area, but not the whole map. Only Vandalier Ash has Plasma Wave that hits the whole map. Vandalier is so broken that you can just spam Plasma Wave and then use one of his infinite free items to heal his MP when you run out.
