What's your personal opinion on them? I noticed many collections had them appiled or an option.

Capcom arcade classics had it slighty appiled and Hyper street fighter 2 for ps2. a little for Genesis collection on ps2.

An option for PS3 Ultimate collection.

Keep in mind people are playing with no crt scan lines or wrong sound input, lag input, etc.

They're already are modifications to the true gameplay.

It depends on the filter, it depends on the game, and it depends on your screen. This isn't really a universal "good or bad" question there's a lot of things you have to consider.

I use them, but I take special care to make sure they suit what I'm playing, and even then I'm mostly using tv mode filters.

>>4141241
Many ps2 collections or modified games retro had bilinear filters. even Wii u vc has it on nes games with a dark filter screen.

Later ones have that hq1x or whatever it's called.

It can make a game lose pixel blocks and cartoony if you like that. There's multiple kinds though.

I think most people need to keep in mind when it comes to filters and the like is your personal preference will always be different than someone else's. Most people playing retro games are doing so for the first time on emulators with screen resolutions that far exceed 240p so you're already messing with the image upscaling it to full screen. At that point whatever modification you want to make from there is just icing the cake. I personally find pic related disgusting and flat compared to the original, but there will be someone else who likes how "clean" it is on modern monitors/tvs.

I will say though it's pointless to have graphics discussions unless you're talking original hardware and original means to view.

Shaders like CRT Royale and Lottes look amazing on high resolution, high DPI displays. But at anything lower than 4k they just look like screen doors.

Since I only have 1080p displays currently I'm fine with just using Pixellate (for muh 4:3) and filters that blend dithering.

It depends on the game and the filter mainly.
I'm enjoying Tales of Phantasia in Mednafen and scale2x, to be quite honest.
I absolutely hate it in GBA Games, but for Phantasia it doesn't feel bad at all.

Was playing Earthbound a while ago and tried out some of the filters. They all made the character's lips and eyes look weird/unsettling. I don't mind the pixels, it would be nice to get them in a higher resolution but unless you can directly just do that I prefer no filters.
