Can we have an Umihara Kawase thread?

In particular, I am interested in any and all information regarding Den-Sen, in case there happens to be anything out there aside from that one video on the demo disc.

I also hear that the original prototype of Umihara Kawase was for Sharp X68K. I wonder if it's even remotely possible to get our hands on such a thing nowadays.

Which artbook? I know there are some 'perfect guides' and stuff with a bit of artwork, but I didn't know about an actual artbook.

For official stuff, there is a nude hotspring scene in the ending of Umihara Kawase Shun, though it's ridiculously tiny when it plays in-game. I'd love a higher quality version of this video.

Toshinobu Kondo is such a cool guy.

One time I ended up at the Studio Saizensen office, and had a chance to talk to him. As soon as I said my name, he recognized me for an incredibly embarrassing email I had written back when I was first learning Japanese saying how much of a fan I was.

At the end, I asked him for an autograph, and he pulled out a pen and drew an amazing little sketch of Umihara for me.

You need to swing to the right and reduce the rope length, it's kind of hard to explain. You have to release the rope or you won't be able to grab the ledge.
The other way to do it is to run on the platform on the right and gradually reduce the rope length, so that when you'll jump, you'll bounce back to the left. But with this method, you won't be able to take the shortcut on Field 24.

There are just 3 games which all play similarly. They're all on steam as well now iirc. For Shun (PSX), I believe the DS/PC port has the most content.

You need to latch onto the upper corner of the wall, then carefully lenthen the rope until you can just barely touch the ground below you. The trick is getting just the right rope length; You should have a section of red, a section of white, a section of red, and then about four pixels of white.

Hop to the right, and run against the rope. Go as far right as you possibly can, until the rope is completely taut (this should take a few seconds), then jump to the left (do not release the rope at any point).

I can give you a replay file, if you have the Steam version.

People praise the DS port for some reason, but don't play this version. They fucked up the music and the watercolor graphics were considerably scaled down.

The PS games (either first or second edition, both are cool for their own reasons) or the steam port would be the way to go.

Anon, I get that Umihara's charm is in a big part herself but the game is pretty good.
I also like to play games for the cute girls but the gameplay is first so I make sure to check all the versions to find the "best" one regardless of the extras which are (unsurprisingly given their name) completely irrelevant
Best Umihara experience would be the PSN/Steam version plus guidebook, having them both in a single pack but having the quality drop to a 30% isn't too good of a deal but still pretty convenient if that's the only way somebody can afford the game.

So what exactly was the deal behind the development of this game? They wanted to make a Bionic Commando-style game, but didn't have the cash to spare, so they photosourced images of aquatic animals for enemies and photos for the backgrounds, then added a tomboy one of the devs made in his personal sketches as the MC for the hell of it?

>> No.4145489

>>4145125
The game is nothing like bionic commando though. According to interviews though, the idea from the beginning was that they wanted to make something unique. They spent a whole lot of time writing background details for the character so they could make somebody relatable, and made sure that it would be reflected subtly in the character design itself, so that there wouldn't be any written story for the character.
