how the fuck is there still no translation of Romancing SaGa 1 and 2

it's 2013

Are they just bad or something? Are they not worth playing? Their systems seem crazy.

>> No.413091

Because Romancing SaGa 1's remake is in English and the SaGa series in general isn't a popular one outside of Japan. Romancing SaGa 2 is suppose to be great, but really hard.

From what I've heard RS1 and 2 are absolutely horrific messes of coding, and translating them without a proficent romhacker is a moot task. The few translations that were already underway have shipwrecked soon after they started and for some reason nobody's been able to salvage the already existing translation data.

That being said however, RS1 is at least somewhat possible to experience in english thanks to the RS: Minstrel Song remake. I'm dying to play RS2 though, from what I've seen and heard it looks like the best of the series.

I'm just amazed there are untranslated roms left at this point like, AT ALL. Let alone for a fucking Squaresoft RPG.

How did we get shit like After School in Beppin and Adventures of Hourai High before this?

Kenji Ito soundtracks are so good.
You can just listen to those battle themes over and over again and they never get old.

For some reason I've never been able to get into the soundtracks despite loving the games. They seem to have this odd 'spaniardish' vibe that doesn't suit me well.

I personally like Spanish guitar, and in the Romancing SaGa remake I really like the song Passionate Rhythm. Personally I don't find the music in SaGa Frontier 2 or Unlimited Saga clicking with me as much as the other games, especially when it comes to battle music.

I agree, hell even the standard battle themes. I don't even know which one I like the most, but I do have a fondness of both Passionate Rhythm along with Believing My Justice. When they chime in it is just perfect.

It is also great when you meet with the corrupted elemental monsters and their battle theme crops up when they start to talk with you right before the fight. Hell I love Kenji Ito's battle music.

no don't say that I'll cry.

how can we be denied them still. am I going to have to learn to romhack.

I don't care if they're not that good. We must know. They must be there to play.

With that said why isn't SaGa Frontier 1 and 2 on PSN in the west? I know they have it in Japan. How much would it cost them to put it up since they don't think it would be worth it? It is one game I would love to recommend to people who post such threads but the SaGa games just aren't on there.

Also what I like about a lot of the remakes for the SaGa games is that they stay true to their source while still being refreshing with adding concepts that were in later games (RS: MS a prime example with combination attacks and glimmers), or just updating certain game mechanics (ridding of random encounters in SaGa 2 remake). It is one of the few, if only series that when I hear there will be a remake of a game I can actually get excited about it since they go the extra mile.

I'd assume such games like Vagrant Story and even the PS1 Breath of Fire games would be niche as well (Vagrant Story more so). So I just don't know why they'd do such a thing.

I don't see any connection within the artists history. They are made by Tomomi Kobayashi. I can't seem to pull much else on her through a quick Google search.

Do you have any idea how massive the SFC library is? There exist a whopping 1442 games, plus 231 games on Satellaview. Compare that to the 784 games the SNES got.(250 exclusive to NA and 63 exclusive to PAL)

We aren't even halfway yet.

There's still mysteries and obscurities and new frontiers to find in there. Magical.

To be fair, a lot of them are about betting on horses(They really seemed to like that for some reason) and Mahjong rehashes.

As for obscurities, ever heard of the Sufami Turbo? It was an official peripheral made by Bandai. 13 games were made for it on these small cartridges, and you could insert 2 of them at once to transfer save files/unlock stuff.

>> No.413735

>>413674
I did, I've read up on it and the BSX.

I mostly know about the Sufami Turbo because of that carranger game with surprisingly good music.

And yeah, it sounds like MAME, there's a thousand games but they're all fucking majohng or sports or horses. And beyond that there's probably a ton of shitty poorly made platformers.

But still. What gems yet await the western world?

>>413735
There is still the sad case of Heisei Shin Onigashima. It's a pretty unique game where you follow a story and make decisions based on the dialogue. It is literally impossible to translate this game because all characters are in a top to down format.

>> No.413841

>>413826
Well, you could place english characters in a top down format, as awkward as it'd look, at least it'd be readable for us...

413926

>>413841
The problem with that approach is that japanese sentences can be written with much less characters than english sentences, and would require more extensive coding.

This game would be much harder to translate than Treasure of the Rudras, and that was an amazing feat.

That's a shame as that does look kinda neat.

Harder than Rudra? Just because of vertical formatting?

I'm baffled. I'm skeptical, even. If you can swing it for a horizontal rectangle you can swing it for a vertical rectangle....

Supposedly the code of both Romancing saga 1 & 2 is VERY hard to hack. It's a shame cause the music is really, really good. Gideon Zhi it's translating romancing saga 2 but he really likes to take his time doing these kind of things, but at least he recently uploaded an image of the progress he has been done (pic related)
Kenji ito is truly an exellent musician too, i personally like this song a lot:

I don't see the similarity, even with his more recent style. OP's picture has a very "90's-ish", almost shoujo-like bishounen characters while Araki went from 80's muscular type to something different (related picture) while always being very distinctly unique.
