it is pretty weird though, if AI Dr. Light exists, there's no reason for that to happen, not unless AI Light had cyber-autism and forgot Rock existed

the real answer is that Capcom ignored what happens to him completely so that he doesn't steal the spotlight from X and Zero

it's not even like they shut down, they get sent to the recycler and scrapped

by the time Reploids happen, limited lifespan doesn't seem to be in effect anymore though (and it isn't until like ZX that Reploids end up with limited lifespans, and there it was a bid to make Reploids and humans equal)
honestly, MM9 almost certainly just threw that in there without a care to see if it seemed weird given how things are later in the timeline, most game creators don't actually give a fuck about that shit

Roboenza does seem like an actual reference to the Maverick virus, but it also seems generic enough to not be.
