There's a second season... next year.

I wish they had either made a longer season, or just waited and animated the entire run rather than cut off the story halfway before we actually get into Castlevania proper.

Other than that it was pretty good, it was pretty faithful as far as an adaptation could be reasonably expected. I'm hoping that they have game-accurate monsters rather than generic demons in season 2 though.

She got burned as a witch, but they never even specifified if it was because of the Church or if she got lynched. And if they had just left it at Lisa's burning, that would be fine. We got like 30 minutes of EVIL CHURCH doings and fight scenes that were pretty irrelevant in the end.

The subplot ends up being mostly filler and of little consequence. If you cut from Trevor saving Sylpha to them going deeper in the catacombs nothing's really lost. There's lots and lots of things they could have added instead of that subplot.

Like why does Trevor stay in the shed? It's entirely to create conflict and drag out the running time.

No, he is saying that the Hollywood formula is to try to appeal to everyone, and then it fails because it doesn't appeal to everyone.
The idea is that Disney appeals to everyone, so that must be the tried and tested method, when there is no method to copy. Which would also be the reason Adult Swim cartoons are better than a lot of common network shops: It simply can't appeal to everybody, so it needs to do something else

Video games often make good movies, because if surgical precision is applied, you can extract something very basic.

You can often dissect them into very basic structures, ie Dragon Age:
1. Warden recruitment
2. Party recruitment
3. Go to Plot Places
4. Endboss GIGANTIC DEATH DRAGON
5. Short 5 minute ending where they honor the fallen, and the sacrifices made.
And Dragonage has a large multibranching plot. If you do a 10 minute budget for each arc, you can do a 80-120 minute movie, with lots of good scenes.
For simpler videogames, even something like Doom, you got even more time to fill. The core reason Hollywood vidya fails badly, is that nobody wants to do a 1:1 adaption, taking the core elements and doing vague plot adaption with good scene pacing.
What plagues Western Cinema, from the traditions start in the 1920s, is that there is horrid pacing everywhere and little to no focus.
So when somebody gets a script for adaption, they will maybe spend 20-30 minutes of the movie to adopt the source material, with a added 50-80 minutes of dicking around completely.
I.E the last Power Rangers movie.
Or 90% of video game adaptions, even the Doom movie.

Because:
1. Netflix doesn't want to appeal to everyone, so they are fine with weird one demographic works. Even if its MARVEL stuff thats horrid
2. Warren Ellis, even if he is a hack, still has good taste
3. Because Netflix has been producing their own content for a small decade now, they are more and more willing to branch out, so everyone involved suddenly get the freedom they need to do such a project
4. Networks licenscing a Japanese IP for a adoption? When Nintendo of America would claim themselves as "negotiates" when they have no competency to even try? And everyone is too shy to hire a gook to translate to his peers, for a small negotiation meeting?
Such things really didn't happen in the late 80s..

British Harry Potter, made tons of money in China, long before it was even a thing to consider. If it was truly made to be exported to China, they would basically butcher it.
Your argument needs some rethoric, to present itself, or it sounds like "Oh, they suddenly got free money from export, because its good movies"

On the other end of the scale there is things like the Marvel Movies, where its understood that risks can be taken, because the global marked push will be large enough to counteract the possibility of true fuck ups.

And one more perspective: Hollywood itself is a gigantic field of Nepotistics Jews, who live of the fact the marked has been built for decades. Even throughout Cold War Export creating a marked, where their financial security is garantued regardless of how little risk or creativity is taken.
It has also created a internal economy, where they got "dedicated script writer", who get free purchase of their manuscripts, for no reason other than to create a stockpile of existing writers, as a lipservice to the community in Hollywood.

Another huge and made for world wide audience movie is the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

And you had Transformers in 07

Spiderman

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The list goes on of complete garbage movies made pre 2010 for foreign markets. You're just a fucking idiot it seems. The rest of your post seems to prove that. Marvel didn't take any risk. They played it safe and easy. If they wanted to take a chance they'd show Spider man getting his ass kicked for the whole movie like in the comics. By Hollywood standards? I can't think of a Hollywood movie that has 20 straight minutes of action, multiple times.
Its also why the 2 current Wick movies stand out so much: American non Hollywood movies, with partial Hollywood Crew, and entire half hours of action scenes. It also has no drama, or cringe added comedy sections.

Another good example is Equilibrium, which would go towards your point: It would do a lot better in todays marked, rather than in early 2000s, simply because China do love their Gunfu movies.

But you aren't presenting a argument or statement. You are merely saying "there was movie franchises in the 90s", while conveniently forgetting that most was one shots without any follow up.
Or conviniently forgetting to Mention that Terminator is a follow up to a 1984 movie(making it a 80s franchise), Back to the Future III is a super rare trilogy end, and there being little else thats of note.

Meanwhile in Gook land, they had a period of unprecedented wealth, so they made Animu Cinema, except they only made one Movie and never adopted the rest of their series. Often with butchered scripts, even if the art directions was extremely artful.
Europa: GermanFrancland isn't exporting shit, even if both of them has global markeds if they bothered. Alongside several nations speaking their language.
Scandinavia has sole big publisher Egmont doing fuck all, even with their global export network.
Soviet Union is only doing art shit(but they collapse, so yay 20 years of irrelevancy)
Latin movies are irrelevant as fuck, even if they occasionally got Directors like Alejandro Jodorowsky, who failed to get funding for his Cool Scifi Movie, because he asked Hollywood, the only global export of movies willing to fund stuff.

Just saying: Global franchise export has always been awful, and so has anything of art combined with money. Unprecedented growth allows periods where its less shit: But its still shit, and crippled by the cartels who has managed to acquire their monopoly after decades of hard work.

I don't know about that. Grimdark and batshit are two different thing. Anime has been "grimdark" since before grimdark was a thing. Then again the only animation I ever really watch are American, Japanese, or french since everything else tends to be trash.

Netflix has been focusing on animated shows ever since they announced they wanted in on the Jap market. I know China is only recently getting into China so it'll be interesting to see what trash gets thrown on Netflix for that. Hopefully not as bad as the Bollywood spam that comes and goes.

Grimdark is just a sign of folklore adaption, since pre modern cultures had a gigantic focus on grim. That is just to be expected by their harsh lifestyles, and harsh mortality rates.
Meanwhile Anglos and Frenchies didn't carry that as far as their neighbors, and it shows that they don't do grim very well. Or that they don't want to include Grim elements, if their target is the general public. This is even true of Slasher films, even if the core value is shock.

Quite the stretch there from ONE scene. The Belmonts may invoke God and holy power now and again, but that's hardly 'extremely religious'...the Belmonts don't strike me as fanatics, which IS extreme religion.

Yes they do.
They have:
1. Brief plots filled with action. This is true even for convoluted JRPGs
2. They already have designs for everything
3. PS1/N64 generation introduced cinematic cutscenes, meaning there is a standard to surpass
4. Music is already written, and often quite good. Even this is far more true of stuff that predates Next Gen and further beyond 2006, because limitations is often good at enforcing quality

The general reason Vidya adaptions fails, is that:
1. They don't want to adopt the plot, they want to do shitty 1 hour drama versions, and maybe add 15-20 minutes of adapting the stuff that is vital. Recent examples include Assassins Creed movie, where they failed to make about some dude doing parkour and stabbing dudes primarly.
Or they made the Doom movie about shitty Space Marine Drama.
The only stuff thats hard to adapt, is stuff like Minescraper, Mario, and some puzzle games.

The movie isn't a retelling, it's a reimagination, so of course there are going to be differences.

Look here is the thing, for Silent Hill 2 (the game), the creator of the series left, and the game completely changed the reason for Silent Hill, the monsters, and everything even existing. The worst thing about that being that they tried to make it sense with SH1's vision of things, basically giving 2 different reasons for Silent Hill existing, and some of the sequels like The Room or Origins were a mess because they were trying to go for both explanations at the same time.

When SH2 does that, fans call it a "masterpiece". When the movie has some differences, it's suddenly unaceptable.

As for PH, it makes total sense when you think about it:
PH in SH2: God's executioner.
PH in the movie: God's executioner
PH in Homecoming: God's executioner

and then in SH2 it ALSO represents "James' sexual frustration", but that's like, his second role, behind the fact that the executioner, and only because James interprates the Silent Hill's lore to his 'liking'.

tl;dr there is nothing wrong with PH in the movie. Or is it the simple fact that they re-used him that bothers you? In this case, what about SH2 and all the sequels re-using things like nurses or dogs, etc
