I had a NES in those days.

I remember seeing a commercial that said "wait until Phantasy Star comes out" and I never played it until a classmate lent me the Power Base Converter with the game. The game was as good as the commercial made it out to be. I have since played and enjoyed 4/End of the Millennium and Online.

My first interaction with the Master System (aside from seeing it in Toys R' Us) in actually playing one was at a friend of cousin's. I was jealous they got a more accurate to arcade port of Double Dragon than the one I had for NES. The did lend me the original Megaman for NES, which started my love for the series, and I eventually invited them to my place because people who loved video games back then were not as common. Those assholes stole some of my NES games, and my cousin was only able to recover one game for me. Basically Master System owners back then were little shits who wanted NES games.

I got a video game magazine from Kohls which turned out to be the first issue of EGM. It had Megaman 2 on the cover, and after the fun times I had with the first game, I had to get the 2nd when it came out. In that magazine, I saw a game called Mystic Defender which looked great in screenshots. Also had an image of some rad demon basketball game for the Master System. Now that I finally got a flash cart for the Genesis, I think I can try some Master System games for myself.

I loved the Master System. My original one had Sonic built in. Some of the later games look really great, like Aladdin and a great port of Shadow of the Beast. The 90s Master System games are definitely better than the 80s games. Master of Drakness, Ninja Gaiden, a good port of New Zealand Story, Sonic 1 and 2, the Mickey Mouse games, the Asterix games, Robocop vs The Terminator, Dracula, Batman Returns, Chase HQ, Forgotten Worlds. Lots of great games.

My oldest experience I remember was my dad playing Tecmo World Cup 93, I loved the introduction of the game and I wanted to play football later this game probably had its responsability.
My oldest memory of my playing it was on Alex Kidd in Miracle World, I used to struggle against the monster with the bubbles in the first level. But one day, I discovered you can pass above, it took me a long time but I was so happy. After that the new place I struggled was the first boss. I used to give the pad to my mom she'd go to the cave.
I probably was 3 yo at that time and I still have it in my room.

Oh and because of me my dad bought After Burner with the joystick, I absolutely wanted a game with a plane, it wasn't After Burner that I saw in the adds but I loved this game.

I owned an NES (like almost everyone in that generation) but I had a friend of mine in the mid 90's (1994-1996, then he moved away) who owned one. I remember when we called Video Game Exchange to see if we could trade it and the games for a Playstation and the dude on the other line laughed his ass off.

ANYWAY, though we mainly played SNES at my house - we still really enjoyed his Master System. Choplifter was a really fun game as were the Wonder Boy games. The controllers were strange that he had as the joystick was on the right side of the controller. It didn't take long to get used to them.

Besides Choplifter and the Wonder Boy games, I can't remember a single other game we played on it. It was weird playing this video game system that no one had ever heard of.

Honestly, I only had one original joypad but the d-pad broke around 2005, since then, I only used non-official pad, I even manage to buy the same as I had and it is really good. It's a pad for Megadrive (3 button) but I just love the d-pad.

Psychic World is good, but it's not an SMS original, so it triggers my 'tism. Phantasy Star is alright, but I'm not bigly into jarpigs. Psycho Fox has irritating physics. After Burner plays like crap on the Master, the best AM2 port on the SMS was Hang On and GP Rider. Never really played Zil2 but the first one was a "meh"troid (see what I did there?),

True for Psychic World.
Psycho Fox's physics didn't annoyed me but I can't even remember the last time I played it.
After Burner I really love it, as long as you have the joystick the game is really nice, of course it is a big downgrade of the arcade version, but the game is really good especially if we consider its release date.
I liked hang-on but it was way too easy IMO.
Zillion 2 was more action oriented than the first one.

After Burner SMS would actually be okay but [actual spoiler:] you can just hold left for like 12 stages and nothing will hurt you once. It's kind of hard to legitimately play the game when you know this, since you'll naturally tend to the left because it's safer.

Also what Europeans resorted to because they're weirdos and Nintendo didn't give a shit about their market?

Yeah, real great games. Can barely find one worth playing, especially exclusives. Wonder Boy 3 is its best and it's not even close to as good as Metroid, a game barely in the top 20 list for the NES.

Block Dude on a TI-86 has better gameplay and controls than Alex Kidd. Most SMS games beg to be turned off in the first 5 minutes from stiff, awkward handling that punishes your brain with anti-fun.
