Hello /vr
I need some enlightment on which cdr brand to use for burning games to play on retro consoles (sega cd/ps1/etc). Last time i checked taiyo yuden was bought by CMC Magnetics. What about that one?
Is CMC a bad choice?
There is a lot of them in my country but i dont want to burn bad quality cds

Verbatim, Memorex and Sony were the brands I used back in the day.

Verbatim Azo.

Whatever you end up using don't fall for the 'burn at slowest speed' meme. I keep having to say this, even on /vr/, but anything less than half the discs max speed is going to be a shit burn. 24x speed is the absolute minimum.

Can you elaborate ? PS1 disc reading speed is really low as far as I know. I use Elgin media and Memorex at 12x , never had a problem

I thought burning at a slower speed reduces the chance of bad sectors?

Not him, and I'll see if I can post the article later on, bit basically due to newer discs and CD Burners being optimized for faster speeds, you actually get more accurate to the original source burns if you burn at a faster speed.

Verbatim is the best these days, but in some countries (like mine) it's non-existent.

Only decent brands are Sony, Philips and HP. The rest is all cheap shit.

Does anyone know if pic related is the real deal i.e Taiyo Yuden rather than CMC?

Actually, looking into it reveals that CMC has no manufacturing in Japan yet the packaging clearly states they are made there...

I might order a few spindles and return them if my burning software reports anything other than TY.

Just ordered 5 spindles at £20 each.

Paid on credit card in case of any skullduggery and will report back if they turn out to be as described. Here's hoping.

These are the real deal Taiyo Yuden.

Awesome. I suspected this to be the case.

Reckon I should go back and snag the other 3 spindles they have in stock?

>> No.4105313

OP you want 650mb cd's not 700mb as those old consoles will have problems accessing them since its more data squeezed onto the same surface area.

Do it, don't trust these CMC niggers.

This has nothing to do with burning discs.

The fact is they are just not made for slow burning. Neither the media nor your drive will do it well because that's not what they were designed to do, they were designed to go fast.
