Well I've had a PS1 for sometime and frankly I don't know what to do with it, there just doesn't seem to be all that much to play. I even went through the trouble of installing a modchip to play """backups""", and I'm still at a bit of a loss. What does /vr/ recommend I play? Please no JRPGs or fighting games and try to go easy on the racers. I have a ton of games, but the only ones I've really sat down and played in depth have been Crash and SOTN.

same problem as Saturn then, except Saturn at least had the Dragoons, NiGHTS, Daytona, and Burning Rangers. Besides Crash and SOTN (again) I have literally not found anything that hasn't aged like milk, or isn't available on better platforms

Armored Core games are classic Mechs
original Metal Gear Solid has some of the best stealth in the series
Clock Tower games are awesome horror titles
you already know about the Crash games. also recommend the Spyro ones, both are pretty fun
DDR is always a solid choice for those who aren't too fat to get off their ass
Discworld games look interesting
Duke Nukem games are awesome
Evil Dead game's fun
Final Fantasy Tactics is probably the best FF game, & it's a Tactical Turned-based game rather than a straight JRPG
Jackie Chan: Stuntmaster is an awesome beat-em-up
Megaman remakes are pretty fun, albeit the music translates weird
Parasite Eve is an excellent mix of RPG, Horror, & FPS
Myst is always a classic
the Resident Evil franchise is usually fun for a series that doesn't take itself seriously (until 5)
Silent Hill is fucking awesome
I remember liking the Spider Man game, although I think 2 on the PS2 was better
Tenchu is a great series for stealth
Tomb raider is always a great classic
went through an alphabetical list of everything on the PS2 & these are all I know or have seen

if you don't mind some JRPG, I think that the breath of fire series is pretty good & there's 1 or 2 games on the PSX

Buddy.... there is so much more than RPGS on this system. Honestly this makes me laugh so hard. The secret to loving the Playstation is investing in hardware, controllers and accessories etc. Some games "play like shit" with a standard controller, but add in a mouse or a flight stick and they are the best this I've ever played. Buddy buddy buddy. I aint saying what games I love to play, you gotta find that for yourself.

also, I kind of like sanvein a lot (top down 3D arena shooter where you have to clear stages surrounding other stages to gain power for that stage, but you only gain time after beating bosses)
and I've been meaning to play gamera 2000 (which is supposed to be almost exactly like Panzer Dragoon, and I love PD1 and Zwei to death)

You could say the same about the NES, the SNES , the PS2 and as good as every other popular console. It simply attracts scumbags to release shit but hey, at least you've also got some more good games to choose from. I love the N64 and I'll always pick it up above the PS1 but I gotta admit it had its strong points with the bigger library and bigger games.

Having a lot of games means there's a larger 10%, though. Usually. If it's low-effort to make absolute shit on the machine, then there's gonna be more than 90% shit (the PC library is a fairly good example, even if we're strictly talking commercial, published games)

in a 4000 game library, up to 400 or so would be some degree of actually good (if not great) rather than barely tolerable or garbage
and you might have to discount that number a bit due to language barrier restrictions
but the nice thing about machines like the PS1 is that I could have a top 50 best games list and another person could have their own top 50 best games list, and there'd can little to no overlap

like, I don't have some of the huge-name games like Crash, MGS, Spyro, Final Fantasy (or like any of the Square RPGs), Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, etc (and that's a lot of games if you include all of them on the machine in each series)
but I've still got a huge stack of PS1 games, and you can't do that with certain other machines

tl;dr: loads of games is a good thing unless it's too easy to release shit on the machine (PS1 wasn't too much worse than the 90:10 good-to-shit standard compared to a machine like the Wii which fails this test badly, and the NES arguably might)
