There's nothing wrong with modding your system. The problem is when your mod is shit. The aesthetic change is applied poorly, like that Pokeball paintjob for that GBA. The concept does not fit the system, like that Xbox Pokemon. Or worst of all, your mod is incredibly wasteful and whatever you created is far worse than what you sacrificed to make it, such as that GBA SP that was hollowed out and made into a Switch dock.

Modding can be fun, but I think it needs to be done with care and consideration.

'06 4Chinner reporting in, not the guy you were talking to.
PERSONAL OPINION WARNING
I'm fine plenty of things we've seen on here, not this particular thread, this one's been full of junk, but in some previous threads that most people call cringe, I've been okay with some of the paint jobs we've seen. Maybe it's because I'm also pretty into /tg/ so I paint models too, but sometimes the pain jobs we see aren't half bad. Someone did their SNES/SuFami up as Castlevania in one instance and it looked really good. My only complaint was the fuzzy basing around the cartridge slot. I dunno about you, but I prefer to keep things other than games intended for the system OUT of the case.

OP's pic in general is pretty trash, and I definitely don't encourage people SELLING painted consoles, but if someone wants to show a little appreciation for the system and the work they did on it looks good, I'm okay with it. I've seen some pretty cool art done on Gameboys, Sega Genesis, actually saw a really cool paint job on a Master System once. Like I said, I don't want anyone selling that stuff because that's just bullshit, but there's definitely some cool art out there.
I don't really see a problem with it for the most part.

Why the fuck are people cannibalizing lots of precious C64's just to use the SID Chip in other devices like the SIDstation? Because of those cretins the best 8 bit soundchip is getting rarer. Is it just because of ....
>a e s t h e t i c
... of those 8-bit sounds, that those fucks are decimating otherwise perfectly fine working hardware?
And why the hell hasn't anybody already funded the production of new 100% compatible and accurate SID-Chips instead of those FPGA-powered clones by now?

Yeah, those Shape-CD's were all the rage back in the 90's and worked like a charm (of course I wouldn't use them in a slot-in drive). But I highly doubt, that this self-made cuts will work for a long time. Cutting around at the delicate data layer is a big no-no and shortening the readability for sure.

On a sidenote, many of earlier PS2 games, that were released on CD-ROM (the ones with the blue underside) instead of DVD-ROM run like shit on all of my PS2's. Those discs were uncomfortable loud and in the worst cases even caused extreme vibrations. Not only did the console vibrate audible and palpable, but sometimes the table too and you could even feel it at your feet through the floor... "Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings" (PS2) maybe was the worst case. With this fucking disc in the console I feared for the drive mechanics.

All these games with damaged labels and/or schmutz smeared consoles don't really trigger me after having worked someplace that took trade-ins. The poorly "repurposed" stuff into ipod docks irritates me slightly but I guess one good thing about retro game inflation is minimizing of that business.

It's not just a meme, it's good advice.
Never apply paint directly to an artistic product.
Thin your fucking paints and do multiple layers if you want heavy coloration.

Direct paint applications result in thick layers of paint better suited to a house than an art project. Unless your art requires heavy texture to it.

If you apply paint via brush, thin it.
If you apply paint via knife, slather that thick shit on.

I like to believe the game was Tony's but he gave it to a friend, they wrote "poop smells" on it and Tony went over to their house one day and noticed it, amended this and the kid who he gave it to had to trade the game in because he didn't want people to think he liked Tony's poop.

People who actually had one or used one know that its a worthless piece of shit and not even worthy of ironic enjoyment like the power glove or those screen magnifier/speaker things for gameboy.

This, Rob literally worthless. Sure he might be a pretty cool concept on paper, but in execution, he was a battery hog that was used in games that weren't fun the way they were designed to be played, one is barely even game as you can just lie your way through stack up. He is a dumb toy, and the only advantage he has is that he looks cool, so if anything, turning him into a lamp pretty much fixes him, because at least now he's successful at doing something.
