I remember playing Beck's Mutations when it came out over Speedy Gonzales for SNES back in like 1998, smoking some killer Sativa.
Shit was great.

I dunno, sometimes I feel like others would ridicule my nostalgia. Games seem a lot more meaningful to me than they do most other people. I remember marveling at the beauty of Shadow Warrior. I'd stop and just stare around me, drinking it all in- earth, trees, sky...Of course, shooting people in the face and blowing shit up was cool too, but I spent at least as much time exploring and admiring all the little things they managed to populate those worlds with. BUILD3D games did that sort of stuff exceptionally well, of course.

I have some weird associations between certain games or sections of games and music/television shows that were incidentally on when I was playing them. Weezer and Slave Zero on Dreamcast is one of them.
I also associate the smell of cheap, fruity incense with Turok 2 multiplayer, because one Summer we went to a hippy-ass record store and bought that game and a shtiload of incense of incense. Didn't even smoke anything at the time, don't know what my parents thought. Honestly the highlight of my life in hindsight.

When I went into full addict mode with Everquest (Kunark expansion) I was listening to The Living End's "Roll On" album over, and over, and over again. I can't listen to that album without getting genuine flashbacks of Neriak and Nektulos Forest.

Through a fair bit of experimentation with various audio cds, I discovered that Glenn Danzig's weird classical thing, Black Aria, syncs up really well with Hexen, and it became my preferred soundtrack up until I beat it.

It was a peak experience, I must say.
Primus Frizzle Fry and Lost Levels was a couple years before that I think. I'd had All Stars a long time, and also Primus, it's just that was a great summer, and I played both all the time.
Honestly, Lost Levels is a great "being fucked up" game.
When alpha-pvp was still legal here, I used to speedrun LL on it, small mario only.

It was a one line addition, that was part of the experience. It was enhanced by the fact that 90s sativa was amazing for games and music as opposed to that indica bullshit the kids smoke today.
Once indica got popular in the early 2000s, I said fuck it-- why not piss clean and actually be able to function.
Can't fucking enjoy indica, it's like taking thorazine or something. I like to be able to form coherent thoughts and recognize changes in room temperature and other higher mammalian functions.

I guess it's just something you had to be there to get: we didn't give that much of a shit about acid and stuff because really good sativa was everywhere and that shit was fucking psychedelic enough on it's own.
