Also what's everyone's opinions on the trifecta of Kegan, Kinsie and Terminus with gameplay mods nowadays? DBThanatos too, but his releases and updates are spread pretty thin. Okay, I'm releasing this tiny bit thingie here first:

Should be self-explanatory, but it's basically a resource for mods that need to show enemy names for whatever reason, this will make it easier for them to display a proper name and not those ugly classname messes. My intention is to keep updating it as much as I can with enemy/actor names from mods (and games) all around, as well as accept pull requests from other people who want to contribute of course.

I'll be posting it in ZD forums later or tomorrow, to keep some sort of "support" going in case someone is interested.
Also not sure if this is thread news-worthy because it's not of common interest really, only useful for mod-makers.

For anyone who's played doomrpg, do I have to play on nightmare or turn the aura curve up from zero in order to get more monsters with auras for missions and shit, because I seriously have seen zero

Also I was getting some random loot in earlier levels but that just seemd to stop and everything has turned into generic pickups, I made sure the menu had the dynamic loot options on

you can still add menus, but the change prevents you from removing the entries that were there so that you could not disable engine features, which is what I believe was the case - old mod with Old menudef ovverrides default menudef, and if it's run on a new engine version, where new engine feature was added, said engine feature would be missing from menu.

Bombed out, overgrown, dark apartment building full with rubble and garbage with sparse flickering lights, dark moody music, a pitchblack nightsky out the window, all of it populated solely by Spectres, with one arch-vile on every floor, hidden somewhere.
There's lots of shrubbery and tall grass outdoors, and there's vines and moss growing indoors.

At least one arch-vile is running around in the inside of the wall, a crawlspace, and there are odd holes for him to see you and burn you through, but it's near impossible for you to shoot him through, there's only one or two spots where you can get a good clear shot.

Fake floors can be done with silent teleporters in stairwells.

if you ever played doom delta in opengl with the helmet hud, your frames had a very high chance to tank. now you can disable it so that doesn't happen. the minimap still works very well in software though so I still recommend it

it's because of the lack of proper visual feedback to indicate you're moving. there's no viewbob, no gradual momentum, no slide effect upon stopping dead on your tracks. which makes perfect sense considering you're required to move around the fight spaces with as less intricacies as possible.

that being said I've been working on a way to incorporate some tweaks into it. Shotgunners are bigger cunts in Immoral Conduct, by the way, so that's fun when they sneak up on you and take like 40hp off you, or there's two of them and they take turns Murphy'ing you. On the flipside you can carry a lot of firepower which can make otherwise meaner enemies easier to handle.

Term, is there a damage absorption difference between armor pickups (+100/+200) in HND? My other criticism was that the brick tome replaces a power up that isn't even present in a lot of wads so if not for Doom Mod Madness episode featuring your mod I wouldn't even know it exists, that SSG replacement and plasma replacement use the same ammo and that rocket launcher's secondary doesn't hurt you so you can rocket blast monsters at point blank as if it was a shotgun

Oh yeah, replacing the SSG with a proper shotgun style weapon in the updated original set, and I'm gonna replace the BFG tier weapons with crates, so you'll find shit like the brick tome, the daibatana, the box of pocket revenants, and some other dumb OP weapons I make. So you'll be able to find crate weapons more often.

I'm also going to tweak the Cygnus to turn it into a burst fire rocket launcher so it's less confusing to keep track of ammo, and tweak the altfire to be a cluster missile that can and will hurt you instead.

If I can pull it off, I also want to make slight edits to the Doomguy sprite depending on your weapon set for variety's sake. Please excuse my terrible art.

I go Lone Survivor all the time because there is enough variety in early weapon drops/spawns to keep things fresh, and the early/common weapons that you get feel strong enough in their own right even when compared to the rarer weapons. For example, I still find myself choosing between the MP5, UMP or M9 MP depending on the map or level set I'm playing. I find the gun sounds are beefy enough for what they represent. some of them could have been made longer, some could have used some reverb a la The New Order, the super shotgun and the rocket launcher particularly. machinery sounds, computer beeps, switches, buttons, doors and lifts are fine.

though it's endearing how much inspiration they took from the original monsters to base their new sounds off of, like the hell knight jaguars, and the pinkies with the weird raptor sounds (since the classic doom pinky design was first conceptualized using a toy raptor dinosaur as base), I just wished they had done them a bit different in a way so that they're more instantly reflective of their source material, because frankly they did a pretty underwhelming job with some of them. I wanted my cacos to hiss and my hell nobles and my cyberdemon to moo. got mixed thoughts on the mancubi. also the imps are almost completely mute for some reason. I just expected them to be more instantly recognizable in general.

gore sounds are pretty bad. gibs and whatnot are waaay slow and take very long to reach the ground and frankly looked like shit. some play-doh type of deal going on with them, just awful.

I think it'd be in a lot of mappers best interest to make more like 10-ish map episodes, it's faster and it's easier to make it concrete, focused and fun, rather than deciding you're gonna make 32 maps and then realize you don't have the ideas or steam to make that and then make it good.
One of the bestest level sets I've ever played for Doom were Doom 1 episodes like Double Impact and Nihility (granted, Nihility is still a demo of a four episode replacement in the works).

That said I usually enjoy collaborative effort megawads like BTSX, and it doesn't hurt to just take a levelset in bites, maybe one or a few maps a day, depending on how you feel.
I just saved and took a pause in the middle of a level a few minutes ago.

Quakespasm is nearly always your go-to sourceport for single player stuff. There are alternatives, like Mark V (which includes an actual software renderer, IIRC), but few of them are on the level of "It just werks" as QS, not to mention most big custom maps and mods are made with QS in mind.

If you want chunky pixels a la software mode, make a text file named autoexec.cfg in your quake\id1\ directory, and throw in one of the following lines:
gl_texturemode gl_nearest_mipmap_linear
OR
gl_texturemode gl_nearest

The former adds a bit of blur at a distance but keeps close textures unfiltered, similar to how original DOS Quake renders; the latter completely disables texture filtering, so you'll see visible banding and pixelly messes a certain distance away unless you also force-enable anisotropic filtering through the console or your graphics card's control panel.

Like say Crush is just some invisible 0 tic frames checking for the thing, if it doesn't have the item it goes to the regular crush animation where it spits blood and bounces the door, and if it detects the item it goes to a normal crush state.

I think the modder dropped the ball with that mod when he severely gutted the player movement speed. Also, I think that using camera recoil is a poor choice instead of simply simulating/abstracting the recoil like RS did by having the weapons lose accuracy when fired in auto.

Okay so to explain what the corpses are, when the zombieman dies it goes into its death state and gains/loses a bunch of flags, along with receiving some health, to make it shootable again while not counting as a monster, letting it be destroyed by explosions, being shot at, etc. if they "die" again they go to a different "corpse" death state.

What I'm trying to do is have doors go straight to the Crush state, the corpses not impeding the doors at all.
