They used a downloaded ROM for Super Mario Bros on Wii. There's no proof that any other Virtual Console ROM is downloaded from the internet.
I'm not saying it isn't possible, but it would be tremendously dumb.
The lead programmer has gone on record to say that the game was actually completed, and has features not seen on the near-complete prototype. In that vein it's the same as Mother. The only difference is Mother actually managed to release in Japan.
Why would they just go and download a near-complete prototype build that can't even be finished when they have the complete version? I suppose you could counter and ask why would they download a Super Mario Bros. ROM when they have the original game?
The answer to both question is simply "I don't know." And we won't know until September.

>"Even after the decision was made we went ahead and completed it, taking it to be fully QA'd through Mario Club."

>"During development [of Star Fox Command] we received a copy of the mastered Star Fox 2 ROM to play, and it was quite a blast."

>The many ROM images which exist on the web of Star Fox 2 are unfinished prototypes, and Cuthbert states that they are missing many elements which make the game complete. Even the ROMs that have been patched by industrious fans to remove bugs and pull together features that are spread across the various prototypes are - according to Cuthbert - a long way off what the final, mastered version is like.

The game's total length isn't the issue. It's the fact that each encounter and planetary mission is *incredibly* short, repetitive, and easy. Not a single thing in this game is fleshed out at all beyond the silly planetary defense. I know people want to like it because it's Star Fox and unreleased and precious, but it's not all that great. Still curious about the version that'll be packed into the SNES Classic though.

Do we have ANY idea when the US preorders will open? I still can't believe the euro preorders happened so soon, and it sucks because I've liked the euro version SNES more then the one we got.

That said, I'll take what I can get. Hopefully I can get a preorder somewhere, since it beats having to wait inside a walmart for 8 hours. I will if I have to though.

>but the fact that the actual devs of the game had no idea Nintendo was releasing the game is a bit worrying.

Why would they know? Cuthbert is the only one I know of that talks to the press, and he hasn't worked at nintendo since 64 3D. Not that it would matter if he was working with them today. Development and release intentions are industry secrets, only administration knows that stuff before its announced. They know about the game they are working on and that's it.

>> No.4087254

>>4087221
Why? From that 2015 interview, it sounds like Nintendo were the only ones with the completed version and the devs haven't seen it since they worked on it. Nintendo is not the type of company to release an unfinished game.

The big thing is that SF2 is all about time management.
>do I go deal with the missiles about to hit the planet, or do I deal with the approaching battleship?
>okay, Star Wolf's waiting on the planet, but I need to deal with it so I've got less missiles to deal with, but it'll take a bit more time than I'd like
>this enemy is taking too long to kill and the satellite is firing at Corneria, I should back out and deal with that
None of the individual encounters are hard, but the game is all about dealing with it while other shit's happening in real time.

also, even unfinished, Star Fox 2 as we have it right now is better than most of the other 3D SuperFX games

>>4087221

>The big thing is that SF2 is all about time management.

This is a great description but I have a bad feeling that this is what's going to kill the reception of the game

Because these events are real time, I'm afraid the levels are short not because the build we have is far from complete, but because that's how the final game is.

But that's solveable. Like maybe if you leave a planet you can drop back in at a checkpoint. I just hope there's a big improvement over the beta.

I dunno, just the fact that the lead programmer of the game has confirmed on multiple occasions that Star Fox 2 was completed and went through QA.

And we know Nintendo retained the completed ROM, since Nintendo gave it to the dev team for Start Fox: Command to play with, one again, confirmed by the lead programmer for the Star Fox series, Dylan Cuthbert.

Yeah yeah the time management is cute and all, but I don't know how many times I have to say it: the objectives you juggle while time is ticking down are barebones and lame as fuck. Additionally, the lock on shot is way OP in the space battles, making a short and easy game shorter and easier.
