Pre and Post FF7 era audiences

early PS1 games were kind of wtfjapan in the sense that they didnt have established heroes and the graphics didnt really allow for graphically well defined characters

after FF7 drew a bunch of people to the system, those people didnt go back to play a lot of those early games having a slew of brand new games with better graphics and marketable characters (Crash, Spyro, etc)

it's kind of like how Jesus Jones/Ugly Kid Joe/Onyx were huge in the early 90's but all but erased from history now

This shit RIGHT HERE.

Ore No Ryouri

Back in 1999 a 1st level demo of it was featured on a demo disc from Playstation Ungerground to showcase the sort of crazy shit those crazy nips play.

It was SO FUCKING FUN. It's just a solid crazy cooking action game. My little brother and I played the shit out of the Vs mode. The gameplay was addictive, and the tutorials on making the food included diagrams of the analog sticks in action so the game is 100% playable even if you don't speak moon.

I spent years looking all over import stores to find it and never could. I couldn't ever find copies on ebay either.

Then a few years back I found that it had been released on japanese PSN so I made a jap account on my PS3, went to a website and bought a prepaid JP PSN card for 1000Jap-dollars, bought this game, and have been playing the shit out of it ever since.

The gameplay is kinda hard to describe: You chop shit and pour drinks, but you need to use strategy to get combos.. like on the first level you work at a place that only serves ramen and beer and you only have one ramen pot. So it's best to wait until you have several customers wanting ramen so you can throw it all in together instead of making each customer wait on you to cook it for the previous one.

You also occasionally have to stop roaches, wash dishes, chase down customers who skipped on the bill, and call the police on a drunk patron.

It's also fun cuz you get to serve beer to kids (the demo on PS underground stated that this was "soda")

Here's a dude playing it on youtube (he skips through the plot stuff and gets right to cooking:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXFsUH452dk

There's a plot, but I don't read much moon. I just know that there's demon chefs that you have to defeat in 1-on-1 cooking battles at the end of each restaurant stage after the first.

I seriously recommend this for anyone who has a JP PSN account or emulates PS games. It's fucking fun.

These four

- Dragon Valor is a really great side-scrolling adventure game. Follows different characters of a large period of time, technically part of the Dragon Buster series.

- jackie Chan Stuntmaster is a really fun beat-em-up meets Crash Bandicoot style gameplay, this should've been the model for how to do beat-em-up games in 3d, but oh well.

- Adventures of Little Ralph is a beautiful looking 2d action-adventure game. Never released in the U.S. but worth importing (I own a copy)

- In the Hunt is a fun shmup made by the team that did Metal Slug, so visually and play-style that's what to expect.

PS2 has a buggy PS1 emu.
If you have a V7 PS2 and up, you can swap using some homebrew programs, but you need a legit disc first.
You won't ever be able to boot PS1 games off of a harddisk like you can with HDLoader, due to the processors that control HDDs also control the PS1's software GPU or something like that.
