A thread for discussion of games that completely confound you as to why they were ever made.

Pic related. It's time for another round of good idea, bad idea.
Good idea, making a sequel to Outrun, a super enjoyable game with a great soundtrack and features some of the most comfy visuals to date.
Bad idea, making it set in the future with a sub-par soundtrack and none of the charm.

it was only renamed into an outrun game late into development.

Compared to Outrun maybe, but it's still great.

>You play as a monkey with a backpack
>Ok, sounds fun
>Your goal is to find a key to unlock a door somewhere in each level
>Where is the key?
>Being held by living fruit that will try to kill you
>How do I get the key out of their hands?
>You attack the fruit
>How do I do that?
>You make a jelly ball pop out of your skull
>I do what?
>You make a fucking jelly ball pop out of your head and then you gotta bounce it off your skull a few times so it gets bigger
>And hitting them with that will kill them?
>No it only stuns them
>Then how do I kill them?
>You press another button while the jelly ball is in midair which turns the jelly ball into one of 5 different sports balls. Hit them with that, and it kills them so you can get the key
>Sounds crazy. So what's the final boss to this game, a giant pineapple?
>A witch with a bird.
>A fucking what?
>The pineapple boss is earlier

To this day I can't see why anyone through that there was a demand for shitty tarot reading simulator on NES.

>Captain Novolin, Rex Ronan, Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus and Packy and Marlon
I guess this quadrilogy of games meaning to educate people about health problems like diabetes and dangers of smoking also deserves a "honorable" mention.

>shitty tarot reading simulator on NES.
I bought the cart a long time ago, because why not. It's weird because it's super limited, even for just a dumb little fortune telling program. It might have been interesting if it actually did a full star chart based on your actual birth time (like "real" astrologers will do) with your rising signs and shit, but it's super basic. It feels more like a demo or somebody's programming class project.

How about a SD Battle Arena Toshinden that is absolutely awful? Why the fuck this is a thing?
How bad it is? Worse than Tekken 1 bad. The camera is spastic and the characters warp in weird ways, possibly to simulate "cartoon effects".
>hey, like Sonic The Fighters? That wasn't too b-
No, not like Sonic The Fighters. It's really fucked up.

Junker's High only got Outrun name just like US Gold's Outrun Europa , I'm pretty sure no original devs are involved in them. That said, OR2019 is a pretty solid game, I actually like it more than the console version of Turbo Outrun, which is a 'true' sequel
