Originally the room was a 25x40 garage. Like five years ago, my niece and nephew needed a place to stay and the two other bedrooms were occupied (my kids), so I had it converted to a guest bedroom, integrating the house's central air, installing a half-bath, et cetera. A year or so back they eventually moved out and I had this really nice room just sitting there being unused. So, I slapped wood paneling on the walls (*I* love it, I think it makes the room really comfortable, while my wife thinks it looks tacky as shit), dragged my recliner, mini-fridge and all my vidya out there and converted it to my gaming room.

I mean, it's only hailed in San Antonio like twice since I converted the garage and there was no REAL damage done to my cars.

Glass table is usually pretty cluttered with bullshit like this

>> No.4081801

I had mine custom built for my specifications. You're probably better off trying to find one of those old stands that were sold with brand new trinitons at the time. Since my tv is so ridiculously huge and heavy (~40 inches wide include the bezel, and a little bit more then 300lb) I was looking for something that could actually support the weight. That and I wanted space for at least 7 or 8 consoles. (There's a ton of space behind the consoles pictures) so I ended up going for a totally custom order stand. I'm very fortunate to have a roommate who works with these kinds of materials. Not sure if you can tell but the thickness of the frame is ridiculous. Pretty sure this stand could support 600lb.

I know most of /vr/ seems to badmouth HDCRT's, but by far that Wega is my favourite TV that I have ever owned. I mostly have "non" vr related systems hooked up to it so ultimately not much for concern. Though I must say the PS2 (component) looks fucking stellar on the Wega as does Dreamcast (s-video).

The Trinitron is definitely a gorgeous TV when it comes to actual vr systems. I have my SNES hooked up through S-video and honestly the picture is unreal.

>well, see, this, this is something completely different. It's vulgar, in that isolated neckbeard gamer sort of way, but the lack of any real quality products outside of the one hobby that makes itself truly apparent elevates the entity beyond that simple, initial disgust. The creature that lives here, something no doubt to be avoided, has a sort of nobility by how pure his intentions appear to be. He exists solely to feed this primal urge, this need to amass and collect what likely constitutes his safety from the corporate giants. But it's not just that the thing is so involved with his hobby, no, this likely lumbering beast is positively ancient. He probably came from the beginnings, when games began their ascent (or descent) into major industrial form.

Yeah, I've just begun to collect laserdiscs but it's neat to see how well the theory translates into practice. Even on a big HDTV they look like a very faithful reproduction of the image (but in standard definition obviously). DVDs so often suffer from compression artifacts, bad mastering and encoding in general, etc. And what a world of difference there is between LD and VHS.

Yeah but it still has the "warmth" of VHS. It's kind of like watching HBO on analog cable which doesn't exist anymore.

The players do seem to have become a little more expensive in recent years. If you want to be recognized as having a "good one" you are probably going to have to spend $100-$200.

I'm extremely cheap and I never spend that kind of money (not all at once at least) on a silly hobby like this, so it took me a very long time to find a laserdisc player in my price range. Most thrift stores won't take them anymore, but since they look just like 5-CD changers it's possible for one to slip through. I eventually got a 90s-era Panasonic consumer-grade LD player for $10 from a hispanic thrift store.

Well, I'm sure there probably is some lag, it's not really noticeable for me. Maybe because i mainly play shooters (memory based?) and rpgs, The big dip for some folks however is the 480i only. And also, this particular system won't ever display true 4:3, i can stretch 4:3 systems and it's decent. but i can't emulate older shooters who have a narrower screen alright,

If you have lower standards on picture quality(like me, i prefer composite)
and won't emulate systems with weird resolutions i guess it's fine. But i just play man. The RGB men would probably slay me.

Sorry to stray OT but I kind of like gramps and don't like to see people get fat. This is some crucial information they found out in the last few years:

"First, they raised genetically identical baby rodents in a germ-free environment so that their bodies would be free of any bacteria. Then they populated their guts with intestinal microbes collected from obese women and their lean twin sisters (three pairs of fraternal female twins and one set of identical twins were used in the studies). The mice ate the same diet in equal amounts, yet the animals that received bacteria from an obese twin grew heavier and had more body fat than mice with microbes from a thin twin." https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-gut-bacteria-help-make-us-fat-and-thin/

I already lick skinny girls' buttholes on a pretty regular basis but it's nice to have yet another reason to.

Thanks for the concern though, sincerely. I've lost weight plenty of times before, I've fluctuated within the "overweight" BMI my whole adult life basically though as I understand it as a very tall person I was being cheated by the chart until just a few years ago? Anyway, yeah for my health's sake though I intend to get down to "normal" and stay there for my 40s and as far past as possible.

Ah, the PS3 was announced to not have an HDMI port on the 20GB model at launch, but it ended up shipping with one, so I made a mistake there. I've been looking for a TV stand that would hold it. Its over 220lbs IIRC, so it needs something rugged. The first stand that my friends and I put it up on was wavering when we got it up there, so it got put back on the floor. Then my cat started attacking the screen, so I needed something to get it off the floor and found that at goodwill. Its just temporary as I don't like the empty space underneath. I've looked around at furniture at some of the local stores, but nothing seems heavy duty enough to hold it. They don't build them like they used to

Added a small computer table to set the SNES on. Not really permanent, just something to put the SNES on until I find a better stand for the TV.

It's pressed board with vinyl, it's not a fine or rare antique but seeing it aesthetically operational again gave my mom some happy nostalgia and I'd junk a ton of meaningless scrap for that. I'd say look for a TV stand from the CRT era. You can still find them at goodwill. I had a 40 inch Sony with a flat glass front (which made it even heavier) on one of those formerly ubiquitous matte black TV stands in an apartment I used to live in, and it held up fine.
Another idea would be checking the weight bearing ratings of cheap IKEA furniture. Even some of the flimsy looking stuff is rated to hold 250 lbs or more. Whether you buy an IKEA piece or not, it might give you some confidence that similarly cheap-looking pieces from a thrift store will be able to hold the weight.

Only got space to have one machine set up at the moment, once I get back on my feet I'll be getting it all sorted again

>> No.4114659

are the lil 13 inch combo crt's usually fine and still a big upgrade over nearly any lcd? i've been thinking about getting one they're pretty cheap but alot of them are MONO, i don't mind needing some speakers externally but it complicates a tiny setup a bit - also are there any sortof, "driver" boxes you can get that will do high quality minimal delay composite/component to VGA for using a nicer pc monitor?

Great Resident Evil set up. I like it. Not the first time you have posted it before.

I totally agree with you man. It's just a beastly fucking TV looks wise, and yet the picture is beyond gorgeous.

Odd that you bring up the HDMI port not working as mine doesn't either. Did yours come broken or did something happen to it?

I fucking love Dreamcast through s-video on the Wega. The picture is unreal to look at personally. I also have to say again that PS2 through component is a godsend.

Yes I am.

Mine does not, sadly.

Love it. The perfect /vr/ setup. 10/10

>> No.4116008

Your X360 is going to red light with no air on the right. Leave at least 5cm of air on the right of the console.
Font: my x360 almost burned that way. Did a red light but it's working until today.

lmao you're decorating with those fake bus stop roll things. Jesus christ. Only cool if you have an authentic antique one.

>> No.4116623

Pretty slick. Love the look of the antiques + plants in the window. But way to cluttured. Get rid of the books and hide the games somewhere.

The big mountain scene picture is kind of cool for somewhere else, but it would look much better with just nice clean white walls in there.

Lovely. Love to see PVMs on carts like they would have been at a hospital or something.

It's an Ikea bedside table actually, with castors fitted.

I like them because they fit 19" rack equipment perfectly and can take a LOT of weight (close to 100kg/220lb in this case)

Recently got a good deal on a N64. 12 rare-ish games (Mario 64, LoZ OoC/Majoras, rogue squadron, etc...) 3 controllers and the memory expansion. All for $250

So, I updated my setup and I find it pretty damn cozy!

Highest Quality Battle Station

>> No.4121202

Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. Are these canadian dollars? Even so, you should have gotten all that for $200 tops. At least you got a black controller

>> No.4121203

I hope you actually got a rare game in that bunch. Those are all basic $10-15 games at a good LGS, incredibly common too. A system would run you $25-40 here depending if it has an expansion pak.

>> No.4121865

I agree that it's way too cluttered. I have a hard time getting rid of books because i tend to re-read stuff from time to time.

I'll probably build a discrete unit for storing games at some point.

I also agree that it would look better without that tapestry thing but to be honest. The walls behind are in terrible shape. This is a pretty neglected room in my household. I'm renovating my old house right now and this room is pretty low priority. One day though, these walls will be in tip top shape. Just not this month.

It's a memento.
