HEY, sorry for the late reply, but I haven't stopped by 4chan since Thursday.

Do you get a black screen after loading the game? If so, don't panic, this is normal. Go have a smoke, eat something, watch a cartoon or something. It will probably be done loading when you get back. I'm not joking. I've got a 2nd gen i5, and Dark Legacy takes about 10-15 minutes to load for me. For some reason, Legends loads up in less than 60 seconds and it's pretty much the same game. I don't know either.

Fun Fact: The recent versions of MAME no longer demand a separate zip ROM and folder for the CHD file anymore. Now you can just make a folder with the right name, and drop the CHD file and all the loose ROM files in there and MAME will load it like any other game. Not a big deal, but I like having a clean list.

I have a feeling this is the reason we're seeing a crackdown on ROM sites

>A man who sold retro-gaming systems with thousands of installed games has faced the wrath of Nintendo and Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN. The Raspberry Pi-based consoles contained many titles for old gaming systems including Gameboy, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Megadrive and Playstation. But, despite their age, BREIN says that infringement of all kinds must be punished.

>While many people go the do-it-yourself route by downloading emulators and ROMs (the games) from the Internet, increasingly people are saving time by buying systems ready-made online. Some of these are hugely impressive, housed in full-size arcade machine cabinets and packing many thousands of games. They also have sizeable price tags to match, running in some cases to thousands of dollars. But there are other options.

Why haven't Formula One Management did the same with F1 games as yet? Considering they did the same thing with mods back in the day...

Wait so ... first Rockstar gave the first two GTA games for free on their website, then they pulled it off and said people were free to get them somewhere else if they wanted and NOW they want those things gone?? What the hell is wrong with those guys?

IDE hard drives are cheap on craigslist.
They can go up to 1000gigs.
You can buy them one by one until your PC case can't hold any more.

I guess.

IDE is fucking slow compared to SATA III though, and you'll need to buy adapters, since no modern motherboard has an IDE controller.

Well that's odd. Once I get home I can check the checksum on my CHD and let you know what it is. I know for a fact mine works with 0.185. I won't be home for another 7-8 hours though.

One thing you can try is to command line it to see what it's expecting, on the off chance it isn't named right. Just open a command line, navigate to your mame directory, and type in "mame64.exe gamenamehere". It should spit up an error and tell you what it's looking for and more importantly WHERE it's looking for it. You'd be surprised how many .CHD files I've downloaded from the net only to find they were older incomplete rips.

Luckily, the only games I know that do that are the Raiden Fighters Jet series, and if you do it right you only have to sit through that shit the first time. Dark Legacy just takes forever to load for some reason.

Yeah well fuck those retro sellers.

Piracy is about sharing and having a superior system. Before these faggot ass companies even heard of digital distribution we were torrenting perfect copies of music, films, games that were hacked to be DRM free. The pirated product is superior, the distribution method is superior, it is literally free market and technological research for every company out there. If they just gave us the fucking games we want to play on the platforms we wanted to play them on without DRM, nobody would've felt the need to pirate, but they're too incompetent to do it so the hackers have to step up and make emulators and rip games from cartridges.

These retrofags took our stuff we ripped and shared and enjoyed, packaged it in plastic and started making money. What did they expect? I'm glad they got fucked. Fuck those bastards with fire.

I thought the concept of IP existed solely to ensure people could profit off of it? Can it really be considered hijacked if that was the purpose all along?

IP law exists to protect the profits of creators and distributors for the service they are providing.
The use of IP law to profit off of something created years ago by someone else while suing those who are voluntarily providing a superior distribution service is a perversion of the spirit of the law by well-moneyed interests.

Well, if I create an IP, do I have a right to sell that IP to a person or a company to profit off of so I don't have to put the work into it? If not, why not?

I do not believe in natural rights, but according to US IP law that is your right. It is great concept, but it has been exploited and lobbied into a pipeline delivering value to shareholders. It is also increasingly outdated; with the internet allowing instant and free distribution of an unlimited supply of media, industrial publishing enterprises are no longer necessary to disseminate media. In fact, many corporations are working towards the opposite end (as can be seen in the OP), pouring resources into actively hampering distribution, often of media they themselves do not have interest in distributing. Publishers should publish, not prevent those that do. Of course, I don't know how one would go about patching IP law in such a way that still protects creators and publishers, while also protecting non-profit distributors from unfair lawsuits. Maybe it's impossible. Regardless, this kind of slash-and-burn litigation against superior non-profit services is messed up.

i only have one a 500gb ssd for games/os, and a 2tb drive and another 1tb drive, shits always full because i seed and download a lot of movies on private trackers.... cd based romsets are massive, its why i bought amazon storage so i can just upload my files.

no idea if actually sharing large folders from amazon drive is a thing, maybe because its not finished uploading yet, but, when i tried to share my friend the download link he said it doesnt work.
