I think allowing sixth gen is an inevitability, at least if this board wants to survive beyond the same threads getting spouted over and over again. It's almost 18 (Give it two years) and there's a lot of games you can't discuss anywhere else beyond entry level stuff like HL2 and Melee.

I still say we go by game age, not console age. It makes no sense that a modern game like Pier Solar is up for discussion here just because it can run on old hardware.

I never visited Reddit (if that's what you meant), but /v/ is one of the largest boards on 4chan with the most traffic, it only makes sense it has a few off-boards like /vr/, /vg/, and soon, /v2k/ (to discuss everything post-2000, and non-current gen)

6th gen is denied by /vr/ because it still feels recent to most of us, but looking at it objectively, 6th gen was pretty much the last generation of "classic" gaming. 6th gen is just a technical upgrade of 5th gen, while 7th gen is a completely different beast. The jump is best seen in those games that were released on both ps2 and ps3: In the ps2 version you'd just pop the game into the system and play just like in the NES days, while in the ps3 version of the same game you gotta deal with updates and dlc and trophies and messages about your friends going online.

I don't want to just discuss 6th gen, I also want to discuss 7th gen, which is hard to do on /v/.
That's why I think the /v2k/ idea is cool.
I think grouping so many different things on /vr/ will make it a mess. Most of this board discusses 3rd, 4th and 5th gen, but I like the ocassional older gen discussion, or pinball discussion, these would just get buried on /vr/ if 6th gen was ever allowed.
Contrary to popular belief, /vr/ is NOT a slow board, at least not if you compare it to actual slow boards on this site.
A thread without many replies might get archived in less than 24 hours during weekends.

5th gen games have way more in common with their gameplay mechanic with older generations then newer.

6th gen games (in general) have more in common with newer generations then older ones.

First timer on this board here. I'll be getting my own apartment soon and I was thinking about getting a PS2 cause the games seem more interesting and affordable. I'm not much of a tech guy, so I was going to ask if there was any issues I should watch out for in set up, and if anyone had some good game suggestions. Did I come to the wrong place?
