It's a very shallow game. Beyond the initial experience of a couple of dungeons and one town, it's a boring slog and a chore to play. The worst example of this in the series.

daggerfall is a meme

>muh 25000000 square km map
too bad it's 100% flat terrain with radom tree sprites and rng cities, boot up minecraft and generate a world with the superflat preset and you get the daggerfall map

>muh 25000000 dungeons and towns
all rng, same shops with same items everywhere, all non shops buildings are empty and there is no reason to go inside anywhere ever unless you need to trigger a quest

>muh dozens of skills that were streamlined in the sequels
most of them flat out didn't work (like all stealth related) or just you couldnt trigger them eonugh times during the course of the game to be useful (all language skills), the only skill that wasn't broken or useless that disappeared when moving to morrowind was climbing

after getting out of privateer hold you already experienced everything the game has to offer

Listen, the game is good, if you don't like it just play something else... you don't have to go mad (or shitpost) for something you're not forced to play - its okay if you like easy stuff, theres Skyrim for you.

>dud you don't like game because is HARD go back to skyrim xD
nice try, 99% of daggerfall enemies can be defeated by holding the key to walk back and swinging the weapon because everybody gets animation locked, once you learn the controls you just can't die in daggerfall

the game isn't good, it's steam greenlight tier at best and i'm being generous

Exactly.

They dont look exactly the same, there is some slight variation.

Some days all i would do is quests for guilds that were all "go to this building and kill ghost/steal cup/exterminate rats". It was good fun. It was easy enough to know the guild was the big building down the street from the tavern which was next to the tree by the lake.

Daggerfall is the only Elder Scrolls game I bothered to finish. It's damn good. Closest thing to a tabletop experience I've ever played. The music holds up really well with a modern soundfont.

I played through twice, once as a Nord warrior with magic restricted, joined the Dark Brotherhood. Everything was a struggle, but doable. Had to beat down all locked doors which was annoying.
Paralysis was pretty much a gauranteed death.

Second time was a mage with armour and wepons restricted. Accidentally selected redgaurd for the race and just atuck with it. Was nigh impossible until I learned an armour spell, then it was just too easy. All the spell variety made me essentially a god. I could fly and was invulnerable. Teleportation made 3 week long quests beatable in an ingame afternoon. Enchanted items had my MP at like 500 too.

I would definitely recommend it. Just rearrange the controlls into modern fps style and its great. Easily one of the most addictive games ever

People who can't finish the starting tutorial dungeon shouldn't really play older games at all. It's not hard. Go to enemy - hit it with sword. Rest to recover hp. Repeat. If it says there are enemies nearby backtrack until you can rest safely...

When it comes to complaints about game being filled with empty random things, nothing really stops you to following the main quest only. I take Daggerfall any day compared to for example Might & Magic series.

You just need to try harder. It might be just the barrier that they feel bit more clumsy at first and then the sprite graphics. But if you keep playing for few hours you'll begin to appreciate the game more and how it feels.

I would recommend you to install crt emulation to get most out of how the games are supposed to look (instead of using shitty scaler as what most people seem to unironically be doing), and also recommend using MT32 emulator or good general midi soundfont to get most out of the audio.

So, it comes down to 2 things: 1) setting up dosbox and your gaming environment in a way it's as good as possible (including adding patches for proper mouse support and modifying keyboard controls to suit your own preferences) and 2) spending more time with the game than just 20 minutes before deciding if it's good or not.

Most people are too ignorant and lazy that they expect everything to be handed automatically to them without any effort. Take a look at these pixel shaders. I prefer the scanlines most as that reminds me of CRT, but most people don't ever do that because they are too stupid to customize anything in their game.

Why are you complaining about towns when the dungeons are much harder to navigate. You can literally get lost.

I enjoyed the fact that I could get lost (and it never lasted too long - always work out where you are eventually by careful map scrutiny or landmarks).

But still, the dungeons were fucking epic. I personally wouldn't complain about them because it really sets the game apart. But if you wanted something to complain about, I would have gone for the dungeons.
