This.

Anyway, to sum it up, there is no "definitive" version of this game.
PS is the original, has the most glitches out of all versions and the trademark PS incorrect perspective, warping texture, etc.
N64 was a lazy port but it has all the benefits of being on N64, such as correct perspective and no loading times, as a con it has muffled sound for voice tracks and it's missing a few tracks from the music store.
PC version is based on the N64 port but at a higher resolution, it has fucked cutscenes sound sync.

Pick your poison.

difinitive answer = PS1 on modern emulators, for AA, correct texture mapping... and overclock for ps1 games with stutters on some moments.

pic related, no texture wobling, AA on

I did some tests here on real hardware and RGB picture quality

1 - N64 version
2 - N64 version without AA
3- PS1 version
4- PS1 version on PS2 with 3D texture mapping enabled in BIOS before booting the game

Number 4 won hands down, that PS2 option really does something with the game, its like mixing the N64 with the PS1 version, you can even speed load times a little by enabling fast disc speed either, or better I still have to try it, install a HD on your PS2, hack it and load the game as ISO, than yes I think it would be most perfected way to play on console

I've found that as I've gotten older the PS1 is often the preferred version for multi platform games. Even if the graphics aren't as smooth I appreciate that the PS1 at least didn't blur the fuck out of everything and the audio is better too.

PS1 displays at 240p
PS2 displays at 480i

Yes it benefits a lot, but be aware not every game works fine with this option, mostly 3D games will benefit from it, but 2D games or sprite based ones will look weird and have black lines on screen

PS2 doesn't default to 480i for PS1 games. I would know because I have to use GSM to upscale it 2x first because my C027 doesn't display 240p.

perhaps he meant that the ps2 RENDERs the frames in 480 lines?
its not image post processing or emulation, its literally just like a pc gaming running on a computer some years later, or what eulator does with applying AA in the rendering and not in the frame image, that guy was talking about a heavily modified ps2, not that i know if its doable

By default, PS1 games display in 240p (unless it's a 480i game). If I didn't run GSM first and upscale it to 480i or 480p, my capture card displays a black screen.

>> No.4065029

seeing how the sequel doesn't have an N64 version I say you should go for the PS1 version so you can have an easier time transitioning over. Also I think the audio quality's better or something.

When you play PSX ISOs from a HD installed into a PS2, you are emulating. Really. I didn't believe it either, but look that shit up. Ideally, you want to play from a disc.

>> No.4065176

>>4064983
PS2 literally has a PS1 GPU in it. There is no emulation. It functions exactly as a PS1 would when displaying resolution. And "rendering" the "frames" in 480 is so absurd, it's clear none of you know what you're talking about.

Not to mention Mega Man Legends doesn't actually work via that method at all. Only a select few games do really.

It's a moot point because PS1 doesn't look good either. On a CRT, AA actually helps a lot.
Any version of this game is fine. If you have a N64, you can probably find a boxed copy (with a full color manual) for around $30.
For PS1, the game costs a lot more, and the manual is black and white bullshit. So, as far as physical/collectorfag goes, I'd say go with the N64.
But if you have a PS1, you obviously had it chipped so you can just burn a CD-R copy of it, or torrent the PC version.

>>4065176
>It functions exactly as a PS1 would when displaying resolution
that must be the 'ps1 mode' i read somewhere, ok so it runs the graphics the same, and it must run at the same clock to not break anything on game that might have been hardcoded for cpu cycles probably..

>>4065176
>And "rendering" the "frames" in 480 is so absurd
are you still talking about ps2? or in general? whats so absurd about it, ePSXe does it, you see more visual information on screen that a ps1 would, im not sure whats called, but its objectively attested

I prefer the PS1 version and I collect for both systems.

The textures are cleaner and the graphics better reflect the saturday-morning anime vibe the game has going for it. The N64 does run 3d games better in general but I don't mind the clipping/warping that much.

Also the sequel is only on PS1 so in my mind it makes more sense to play them on the same console.

That said, I have no experience with the PC versions of either.

>The textures are cleaner and the graphics better reflect the saturday-morning anime vibe the game has going for it.
I actually find the smoother textures on the 64 version to fit that cartoon aesthetic better, it seems more like cel-shading.
The PC version is the best one because it has the smooth N64 textures but at a higher resolution.

It's okay, it seems nobody ever agrees on this game.
I think none of the versions are good, they all have their pros and cons, there's never a definitive version.
Ultimately I think I prefer the N64 version simply due to no loading times.
