Not that they aren't pretty fun as a novelty, but there is just no appeal besides shock value. There's not even an attempt at making the games sexy, as the characters are almost always in absurd situations.

you forget that back in the 80's porn wasnt as massive and accepted like now. Like you were in the same level as a drug dealer if you were seen near a XXX cinema. Or getting a porn magazine. So people then had a lot of imagination and fapped to even the most basic representations of porn.

The point was to make money. Spin two successful elements of youth culture into gold. Remember, there was little to no review system for video games period and even rags like Vidiot or Cream probably didn't review the porn games (will probably look that up). Nowhere with a demo console would have sold it, probably (that's how I picked games back then). They were sold entirely on their covers and controversy value.

Scrambled porn was the jam. It's kinda funny to think about how kids growing up today just have the internet and don't have to jump through all these hoops for porn that anyone growing up in the 70s-90s did. My brother used to rent VHS tapes and then just record all the parts of movies with tits or sex and edit these compilation tapes together that were just reels of nudity. Sometimes even just pointing a video camera at the TV and calling it a day if the double VCR setup wasn't an option. I used to record the raunchy ass shows that sometimes made it onto public access at 2am on a weeknight.

Your bro is pretty hardcore. Back when porn was scarce we'd trade (non-animated) GIFs and JPEGs of nudie photos, mostly scans from Playboy and the like. (I guess I'm younger than the average poster ITT.)

I can't imagine anyone actually finding any of the Atari porn games sexually stimulating. They are simply worse than a lingerie catalog for that. I think the most likely explanation is that they were a kind of scam. They were designed to make you order one (they were primarily sold via mail order IIRC) _thinking_ you could fap to it.
