What are you scoring and 1cc'ing in lately, /vr/??

>> No.4032305

Started playing R-type. My goal: get a 1-ALL. I'm pretty consistent at clearing the first 4 stages without a death but haven't memorized stage 5 yet.

I have a few shmups to play...
>Darius Twin
>Ikaruga
>Guardian Legend (kind of counts right?)
>Last Resort

I also have a Turbo Everdrive, so I can play stuff from there.

Where should I start? I've wanted to get into the genre for awhile but always get disheartened.

>> No.4033791

Bump.
>>4032431
I've heard Ikaruga is amazing so possibly go with that, or wait for someone more experienced in those games to give an informed response.

Ikaruga is pretty challenging, so only play that if you're confident in your abilities. Can Turbo Everdrive play ISOs? The two Cho Aniki games are actually pretty fun, and Gradius II has some exclusive content.

A few good startes IMO:
Gradius II
Super Darius 2
R-Type

If you like SHMUPS at this point you can search for other SHMUPS on your own

Been so long since the last time I played a shmup. So I start brushing up on something easy like RefleX due to its shield system. Perhaps will play the trilogy afterwards.

That looks nice. A fanmade crossover shmup looks great, although implementing each games feature will be hard.

There's Gwangedash, though it's mostly focused on vertical shmups

I've played that before. I can only last until stage 4 using twin cobra.

I think there is also another one that I played before, it includes the other ships from gradius gaiden as well. Its more of a crossover using Raiden's system.

I'm not 1ccing shit. Shmups are hard. I'm beating my head against the concrete wall of difficulty until muscle memory or miracle let me barely wiggle through.

I've been thinking of expanding my MD library. You guys are usually good for hot opinions. If I were to only get 1 shmup for the Mega Drive what should it be?
I'm limited to PALshit if that affects the answer

Anything Toaplan is good
Anything Thunder Force/Lightening Force sans Thunder Force 2 is good
Gleylancer, Gaiares, Twinkle Tale, Undeadline, Elemental Master, Vapor Trail, lotsa good shit but it's mostly Jap only.
Really nigger get a flashcart and mod that shit to Pal 60.

Is there any way to manipulate the stage 5 boss in R-Type? I just lost a run because it cornered me and was wondering if there's a consistent way to take it down.

I'm looking for a game I saw once, the gimmick is that you played as a helicopter and you could rotate on your own axis. I'm sure it was on the PSX

Never mind I figured it out. I think just getting close with rapid fire at the start of the battle clears enough of the goopy outer layer to make it consistently doable. Can't believe it took me this long to realize this.
