Was this the reason Sega named it Genesis in the US? After the NES annihilated the Master System in the US market, Sega needed a new beginning so Genesis kinda fit. They were also selling to bible thumpers, so this humorously made sense as well. I grew up knowing Mega Drive was the name for it everywhere else, but I always wondered why they changed the name.
