Will Compile Heart ever release a western retro Madou Monogatari pack?

I tried to play Madou Monogatari I (the one with the tower), but since I don't know Japanese I don't think I can beat it without using a guide and I won't be able to appreciate the story/characters as much.

>> No.4025524

Super Kindergarten Kids (the fantranslated SNES game) pretty much remakes and improves on the first game. Other than that, yeah, no, it's not fucking happening, Compile Heart is a horrible company and they don't even own the rights to the characters anymore, that now belongs to Sega which is more interested in milking out the Puyo Puyo puzzle franchisae.

>> No.4025525

Sega owns the rights. They released Puyo Puyo internationally for the 3DS and could do the same with the other games.

>> No.4025528

Gotta talk it over with Sega.

Hey, maybe they'll listen. They cooperated with fans to make Sonic mania and ARE interested in making puyo more global.

Yeah I read that about Sega, but I was hoping Madou Monogatari would be considered a different franchise because of how different the gameplay is. But yeah I guess you're right, the characters are the same.

The Puyo Puyo Tsu one right?

Apparently there's a rerelease of the PC98 Madou Monogatari in Japan? What the fuck is this?

You probably already know this but Compile Heart DID make a spiritual successor to Madou Monogatari on PS VITA, it's called Sorcery Saga.

>Will Compile Heart ever release a western retro Madou Monogatari pack?

Can't. They don't have the rights.

The closest they did was releasing a new Madou Monogatari, which was a remake / new version of Waku Waku Puyo Puyo Dungeon, and they filled it up with a whole new cast who looked different, had different names, but all of their personality was a carbon copy of the old characters. Shame that the new designs were godawful overdesigned anime moeblobs.

This was back in 2013, on the fucking Vita.

For what its worth - it was at least localized.

They could make a new rpg or dungeon crawler or rogue-like that way, but it wouldn't be the same.

>> No.4026186

>>4025528
>Hey, maybe they'll listen. They cooperated with fans to make Sonic mania and ARE interested in making puyo more global.

They made Sonic Mania because taxman and stealth gave them a complete modern game engine. If it weren't for that, they'd still be selling poorly emulated copies of the sonic games on Steam, because they can't be arsed to put any effort in anything that may or may not work. With the brunt work of the programming done by the fans, all they need is 1 guy to build decent levels and 2-3 artists to do new animation and level art. That's pennies.

>>4025545
That doesn't play like the classic madou monogatari games at all though, it's a rogue-like with random dungeons. The Saturn/psx game Waku Puyo Dungeon was like that too.

To be fair madou monogatari was pretty generic, it was only the Megadrive and Snes remakes that tried something fresh with the battle system.

My problem isn't that, but that the new designs are shit. They go full Ar Tonelico on a cast that consists of characters like:
- Witch (a witch)
- Minotaur (a minotaur)
- Zombie (a zombie little kid)
- Incubus (an incubus, who fails at his job)
- Harpy (a girl in a robe with small wings who sings in an awful voice)
- a flea
- Siamese twin Siamese cats
- a giant fish with legs and arms
- a mermaid (looks like a mermaid)
- generic demon nobility (called Satan...)
- various blobs of different colour
- a white knight
- an elephant
- a dark knight
- a genie girl
- a succubus
- a snotty bitch who does karate
- a mage apprentice girl
- her pet Pikachu

About the most complex designs in the series were Satan and Draco Centauros, and she's a generic demon/dragon human girl too. Every design in the game was exceedingly simple, and that was part of its charm imo. Especially since the game sometimes goes surreally dark, like that game with the freaky zombie ending, or the Saturn RPG where they have to deal with motherfucking Yog-Sothoth.

same here, see my old pic. One day I'll really have to finish it; to get the final ending you have to beat the game with all 3 players and then do a 100-floor marathon on the last tower. Which is pretty damn hard when I can't even read the Japanese status messages (so I don't notice when my characters get hungry, which is fatal cause they deal 1/10th the damage).

>>4026225
It's in English, and iirc a different game, that just looks and plays largely the same.

can't tell cause I don't even know wtf the story of Waku Puyo Dungeon is.

In a sense. EGG started as a project by Bothtec, one of the oldest Japanese PC publishers until it folded around 2004, and then its EGG employees made another company (D4 Enterprises) which now operates EGG, and owns most of Compile's games. They don't have the rights to use Madou Monogatari characters in anything new because SEGA took all that when they got that Puyo Puyo.

>>4026239
Geo Conflict series, Wander Wonder, and El Dorado are super cool for late Compile. I just wish it was easier to really play them since EGG hasn't updated the originals at all.

Seriously though her facial expressions are the best part of the Mega Drive game. I really love the whole concept of the UI and how it affects the game's feel; it's even more impressive that they did it with a genre like a first person dungeon crawler rpg.
