Do you think that it's possible to make a new YouTube channel based around retro games and consoles but make it more technically centred? Explaining stuff like scaling, mods, all sorts of cables, how and why you should wire stuff in certain way etc. and throw some game review here and there? All that without ending with 300 views per video? Essentially make a total opposite of AVGN?

OP, I'm sorry to say this but whatever your idea might be regarding games, old or new, it has already been done. It has already been done by someone with far less knowledge than you and it has already been done by someone with far more knowledge than you.

If you want to make it work, then it will have to be about your charisma. That's what makes people come back for more content, they want to see/hear you talk about the good stuff. Not necessarily about the content, but about you talking about the content.

Yeah this is the thing, at the beginning you will be extremely lucky to get like 300 views per video. People want shitloads of content and it won't be for at least a year that you have a lot of it. Many of the YT channels I follow are channels where I found them and they had 20, 30, 50 videos, so I ran through all of them as fast as possible and then just watch the new ones when they come out. If I see a channel and they only have like 5, 10 videos, I am less interested in getting invested.

Being a poorfag stuck in PAL territory makes everything so much worse. By now I've resigned and realized it's probably not worth the hassle to import hundreds worth of NTSC equipment, modding it, getting the BEST™ TV, etc, etc. It's a rabbit's hole, really. Where do you stop? Do I really need to make the pixels so sharp I'll cut my eyeballs when playing? What's the point?

I'll probably just get a new compact computer once I'm finished with university and hook my current beefy PC up to a HDTV, have it run RetroArch with some nice CRT shaders. Throw in an adapter to support original controllers, and I'm all set.

Why spend hundreds when I can get the same look and feel (plus added flexibility) for less?

"BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME! IT'S NOT ON ORIGINAL HARDWARE", they'll say. Sure, whatever. As long as I enjoy the way it looks and plays, I'll be satisfied.

But when actually making the videos, do not do the on-camera presenting yourself. Stay behind the camera and never speak; give all that work to the most strikingly, enchantingly pretty young woman you can get hold of. Pay her up front or in shares of ad revenue. If you can't find anybody extraordinarily striking then at least make sure she appears to have large breasts and that she sometimes shows her cleavage very prominently. In all other regards, make what you would have made on your own. Make no attempt at hiding that the girl is primarily there to grab attention.

There, now you've got a guaranteed fanbase of many more than just 300 people, and your content needn't suffer for it at all, since the identity of the presenter isn't directly connected with it.
