Would you guys recommend Sim City? I've heard mixed reviews about it. Thinking about playing the SNES version if it's any good.

Sim City on the SNES is not fun. Play it on DOS.

>> No.3998968

It's one of my favorite. The music is very charming. It's more fun to play with the tons of money cheat, though maybe don't do that immediately. Once you hit metropolis level, it sort of gets slow. It's great though.

Sim City SNES is comfy as fuck but also dog slow. Same for Sim City 2000 on Saturn.

SNES Sim City has unique soundtrack which contributes greatly to its comfiness.

Beyond that, the PC versions are superior gameplay wise - though I find them to require way less effort because when you switch the game to turbo, you can let 100+ years ingame time go past in seconds, which takes out all the challenge.

>> No.3998990

It's alright, but it's shallow compared to the later games. Get either the SNES version or the SimCity Classic re-release.

The SNES version was my first exposure to Sim City back in the early 90s and I loved it but I find it hard to play now, it feels very sluggish. I later got the enhanced CD-ROM version for PC.

Sim City 2000 is my all-time favourite Sim City. I used to love being able to fly around my cities in Sim Copter (weird game but a lot of fun at the time).

What about Sim City 2000 on the SNES? Is it any good?

Are either playable via SNES mouse? Or is the control scheme using the controller cozy enough?

>> No.3999084

Didn't Sim City on SNES have mouse support?

There is also SimCity64, one of the few games released in Japan for the 64DD, I guess not many people played that one.

that one wasn't developed in-house by Nintendo like SimCity the original with Mr. Wright.
S2000 was published by THQ

I don't think so, it was released way before the SNES mouse was a thing.

I know it's cliche as fuck to say, but honestly the SNES version of Sim City is the most comfy version of the game. The soundtrack is GOAT.

The key is to watch TV or a movie while playing. That way you can pace yourself and not run out of money because you got impatient and built a lot of shit.

Loaded original Sim City up on my emulator last month.
Decided to create a test city just to see how the SNES version worked.
Called it "Cock City" because it was a test and I didn't GAF.

Hours later (and decades later in game) Cock City is a thriving metropolis and a glorious testament to excellent civic planning.
It was my finest creation.

TL;DR Yeah, it's fun, and addictive,
and it will steal all of your time if you let it.

you can easily adjust the time rate in SNES Sim City, wtf are you guys talking about?

>> No.3999314

>>3999297

Nah. The SNES is a VERY decent port, but in the end, this game is 100% easier with a mouse and keyboard. Way too much digging around to get to the function you need with the SNES, and it's hard-as-fuck to make the map scroll upwards for some reason.

But the gameplay is quick, the colors are great, and the game really can't get any better on console than it does on the SNES.

Not the same guy here, but IIRC the top speed in the SNES version makes about 5-10 seconds for each in-game month. I've never played the PC version but the other anon said you can pass 100+ years in a few seconds, which presumably would let you amass a massive amount of money and make the game easily winnable.

Of course, the SNES game had a way to glitch the tax screen at the end of the year and end up with maxed out money, so you can cheat to win in that game too.

You can set the rate you want, but the hardware will only keep up if your city is small enough for it to simulate at that rate. If you have a huge city, you're gonna either wait, or hit a fast-forward button from outside the game (this is possible in an emulator).

Anyway OP, yes play the SNES version, yes it's good, but do it on an emulator with a high-speed feature just in case you get tired of waiting.

Is there an HD mod for SimCopter?
