Dis. The SNES sound chip is a fugazzi, while better from a technical standpoint, nowadays the orchestra string samples sound like their being played through a tin can. Meanwhile Genesis samples are cleaner, tighter and don't feel like you're listening underwater.

I don't think he preferred it, it was more of a timing thing.
Genesis had just come out and there was no Snes yet, and Michael apparently mentioned how much he loved this new 16 bit machine because it could do stuff that previous consoles couldn't.
then Sega jumped on that and kinda promoted him to their spokesperson, and Michael enjoyed that because it meant he could visit Sega and shit.

As a kid I loved that a celebrity like MJ "preferred" my choice of console though.
looking back it was a timing issue, had the Snes come out earlier Michael probably would have said how much cooler the Snes was in comparison to the NES.

This is the Sega AS1 motion simulator. The game it featured, "AS1 Scramble Training" starred Michael Jackson in live-action video. It's a positional gun shooting game similar to Starblade and Galaxian 3. After a "training" stage, the player with the highest score would be given control of the ship to perform an emergency landing.

Honestly I bet Sega of America's location in California had a lot to do with it. I don't know how secretive Nintendo was at the time but the story is that he could just drop in at SoA every now and then and check out what games were in development because he was just interested, and that's the kind of relationship he had with the company. I don't think it was the Genesis specifically but more that Sega was looking to make in-roads with celebrities in a way Nintendo was not.
