ITT: Games you've finished a hundred times but will never get tired of.

For me, the NES Castlevania games. It's honestly hard for me to believe some people prefer post-SOTN Castlevania.

>> No.3982694

My favorite Castlevania is Lament of Innocence. fyte me.

>> No.3982696

>>3982689
I've recently discovered playing SOTN on luck mode (weakened stats) with no equipment (except Alucard stuff for Shaft and Drac) and no save points (unless required) is actually a lot like classic Castlevania. You have to make careful use of your sub-weapons and limited healing capability, and you can only take a handful of hits.

But yeah, it's a shame that the two game formats haven't been able to coexist.

The first 4 are my favs but its hard to deny the appeal of the DS games and aria of sorrow.

You should try Circle of the Moon

Any way, back on topic. I could play this fucker blindfolded. It's a perfect length, and fun twitchy action at the height of the formula. Shadow Man and Needle Man, along with the extra levels and music are bad bonuses either.

This game is perfect. What makes it so good, of course, are that the core mechanics are simply fun. It is wildly fun to run circles around enemies, or to set traps, or to blow them up with massive fireballs. It is a great length where you can either beat it in a day, or do all the content and have it last you several. You can custom build a party, or you can play solo. You can beat it ironman, and the game provides all the items and spells you require to complete this task with a little skill. You can use several different strategies to approach enemy encounters and almost all are fun and effective. In terms of variety, replayability, and fun, other RPGs don't even come close. The graphics and music are nice, too.

>> No.3982725

For me, most of these games are multiplayer and don't have a way to beat them, which is perhaps why I enjoy them so much.

I do very very VERY much enjoy single player games just as much as multiplayer, but not endlessly. Not unless it's been so long since I've played it that it's able to surprise me again, either because I've forgotten how to play it or because I haven't played anything like it in so long.

I feel that way about 2 more than 3.

In 2, there's a circular relationship between bosses and weaknesses.. no matter who you start with, you can progress through by fighting a robot weak to the weapon you have. If I start with Air Man, I can go Air Man - Crash Man - Flash Man - Quick Man - Metal Man - Bubble Man - Heat Man - Wood Man. And Air Man is weak to Wood Man's weapon as well. MM3 doesn't work out so neatly. There's 2 different cycles happening.

>> No.3982731

Sonic 1 on Sega master system. I just love the atmosphere and music in that game.

>> No.3982732

I always bite the bullet and just start with Magnet Man in 3, then Hard, Top, ect.

>> No.3982737

>>3982732
Yeah, but you reach a point where you have to fight somebody with the blaster. Snake Man is weak to Needles, Needle Man is weak to Gemini, Gemini Man is weak to Snake. It's a closed circuit.

I never loved Mega Man enough to do it with just the buster.

I spent too much time as a kid trying to perfect this game. I can now finish with no deaths while drunk from muscle memory. Used to play through it at least once every few weeks, but I haven't in almost a year now.

>>3982737
Shadow Blades work pretty well for the first round with Snake Man.

Okay, can we put this to rest - people who prefer hardcore action prefer classicvanias. People who prefer action-adventure RPGs prefer igavanias.
There, they're very different kind of games even though they're both called Castlevania, one is about pure challenge, the other is about equipment builds and exploration. They're just different.

On topic - for me it's the Sorrow vanias. Something about the soul setup system really resonates with me, it's like being able to build your own character class on a whim and freely switch it around in a snap of fingers. Also, they're great for completionists.

>> No.3983059

>>3982689
I both agree with your choice and agree with those who prefer the Metroidvania Castlevanias.

The original game is easy to pick up and play through until you're tired of it or you beat it, it's not an investment, so I'll definitely play it way more than, say, Circle of the Moon. But I do really really like the complex maze format, even if I'll only play that game once or twice.

>> No.3983061

>>3982728
The circular relationship is true of basically all of them but three.

And I feel the way the two of you do about 4. Fun times.

>> No.3983062

>>3982829
When I was a kid, I only did it with the buster. I was super autistic about limited ammo, so I basically never, ever used the upgrades. I also had no clue about the weakness thing.

I made Mega Man needlessly hard on myself, in hindsight.

It's weird but I never get tired of watching playthroughs of the King's Field games. Interestingly enough I don't feel like playing it myself but I've watched playthroughs of all the games several times and for a while I would even use it as a background noise to sleep.

I agree with OP, I miss old style vania games. It isn't that I don't like metroidvania but i believe there is room for both styles in the castlevania universe!

Castlevania 1 is such a phenomenal game. I feel its like SMB1, it gets overshadowed by its more famous sequels but stands on its own well.

For me I can play Kirby's Adventure on repeat basically. I can't say what but something is just so amazing about it. I find myself playing the 3ds version more then most of my 3ds games honestly.

For me 4. 2 is a bit too easy and 3 is kinda buggy with some bad design choices like the doc robots. 4 has great levels, runs great, and good length. I will admit 2 and 3 have stronger soundtracks but 4's is still great.

Finished? 100 times? Castlevania? Why? Do you go for some aspie version of completing a game or something? Even then, why not get it right the first time you sperg to that level? Speed runner? Explain. Help me understand. Totally not not judging. Not a typo. I'm judging you as fuck until you explain why you did this crazy shit.
I might have finished a few quickly done casual arcade games 100 times and not got tired of them. Shit like Altered Beast was always a great way to get a nub to play because you could carry him and just flick pennies to continue. Turning into cool monsters was cool. Bubble bobble was a similar thing. R-Type was a bit of a dissimilar thing. But after you beat it the first time you should be able to 1CC it after that. The sheer magnitude of spectator response and ass licking and occasional literal cock sucking that happens when you do this inspired me to finish that game well over 100 times.
