Remember when flea markets sold this for like $50 back in like 2007? So glad I got mine then.

Nah but this was a flea market. I also paid $50 for the console with cables, a controller and Mario/Duck Hunt. Flea markets are now selling them for $150

>> No.3964631

>>3964593
I was finding those left and right for less than $20 in thirft stores/flea markets around 2007, with games and controllers/hook ups.

Even my local retro store had crazy good deals for the time. Maybe my area was just had a delayed reaction to the retro craze, there was a plentiful supply.

Wish I still lived there, it was the best town I ever found retro stuff in... I doubt it's survived, though.

Around that same time they were selling Conker for $70 and I recently saw this overpriced as fuck retro game store in the mall selling a loose cart for 200 fucking dollars.

>> No.3964646

>>3964631
Yeah well I know that feel but times change. I have about four of them including a boxed complete top loader I put together for $30 that the prices haven't ballooned enough for me to sell off just yet but you know what you couldn't buy for $7 in 2007? 6th gen consoles and they're going to end up much scarcer thanks to their much higher failure rates.

>> No.3964674

>>3964645
Damn, I recall Conker always ranging between 60-80$. I really haven't kept track the last few years, the whole YouTube craze while enjoyable has ruined the market. I chose to sell off a lot of my stuff JUST before it really hit. I'm salty, but hey I had bills and was moving far away.

>>3964646
Funny thing is back in the same time period it was the new gen consoles fetching 500$ or more at thrift places while the retro systems piled up.

Now I just don't see either, only some shovelware at best.

Are you sure you don't mean 5 instead of 50 dollars? Nowadays they ask around 50 bucks for that where I live both online and at flea markets. Not crazy expensive but still one hell of an inflation.

You paid way too much in 2007. Those things were going for less than $20.

And now the NES is $50 everywhere online.

NES consoles were like $30 max complete with controllers and SMB. I remember back in those days only games like Earthbound, SotN, EVO and Suikoden 2 were expensive because they all had relatively low print runs or sales compared to demand. Nowadays I walk into a pawn shop and Super Mario Kart is 50 bucks. Turtles in Time is a 70 or so dollar game and keeps going up on eBay. The bubble will explode within the next decade though... Just like with comics and baseball cards.

>>3964646
>what you couldn't buy for $7 in 2007
True. I don't think I ever paid that much for a DC, GC, or xbox in 2007 unless it was a boxed special version or something. PS2s were still worth something. Stuff might have been more expensive on ebay. I don't know. I got my drivers licenses in 85.

>>3968659
yeah stuff like that does happen, but it's a rarity and it get's jumped on almost instantly. I remember when coppies of smash bros on n64 could be found anywhere for $20.

Now you have to try and beat those ebay scalper bot or search through dozens of second hand stores to find it on the cheap

>> No.3968814

>>3967646
They'll go down in price eventually, but it won't ever go back to 25 cent copy of mario bros/duck hunt levels.

It's going to reach a tipping point where all the hipsters and millenials will get all their childhood games and get bored of the novelty and those retro games stores who payed $150 for a copy of earthbound are going to have to start lowering the prices of stock

I got mine for free along with all my cousins games in the early 2000's cause he was sad that I didn't have a console. That's why I'm here on /vr/ years later, that's what got me into old shit. Without that, I probably wouldn't even have a collection.

>> No.3968821

I think it's been about five or so years, maybe longer, since I've seen anything game related at any second hand place that weren't just a dozen copies of old maddan and fifa. Once in a while there's a hockey game or two to spice things up but that's it.

Found some other good finds over the last couple of years on bootsales

megadrive 1 power lead 5gbp and bought a 2gbp RF cable, already had games and controllers

GameCube, no wires, 3gbp
Ps1 fat scph 7502, video and audio wires 2gbp
N64 boxed with bubble burst game all wires and controller, 15gbp
N64 unboxed, Goldeneye, 1controller, all wires 10gbp
Dreamcast, sonic adventure, all wires 1 controller 10gbp
Megadrive 2 sonic 2 altered beast, all wires, 2 controllers 30gbp
GameCube all wires, 1 controller memory card and crash bandicoot and medal of honour rising sun 10gbp
Gameboy original with carry case and Tetris excellent condition 2gbp

More or less. I used to just play Clockwork Knight and Nights a lot, same with Dark Saviour. Virtual On too, and my brother enjoyed playing Baku Baku with me so that was pretty fun. I found a loose console without chords in the garbage when I was in elementary school back in 2003/4, it had Mario/Duck Hunt inside. I somehow hung onto it through several yard sales but my parents never would buy chords for it off of eBay because they were convinced it was broken. Years later in high school I found the chords and a controller in a thrift store for 5 bucks total (also Topgun but fuck that game). Bought them and when I hooked everything up it worked flawlessly. Still one of my fondest vidya memories.

Because in the 90s "retro" meant the 60s and 70s, not the 80s and 90s like now.
