3952094 No.3952094 [Reply] [Original]

Best way to play Castlevania Rondo? Or whatever you choose to call it. What is the preferred experience?

>> No.3952098

>>3952094
To clarify I know there are different console versions and remakes.

>> No.3952105

>>3952094
Turbo-CD via mednafen

>> No.3952108

In the 90s, as a Japanese school kid, on the PCE CD you've bought with your allowance money.

>> No.3952161

original PC Engine version is the way to go. definitely better than the PSP remake or the emulated version of the original included on the same disc.

also the SNES Dracula X is worth playing too, but understand that it's a totally separate game that just used sprites/music from Rondo.

>> No.3952229

>>3952161
>or the emulated version of the original included on the same disc.
The emulated version is the same as the original with a built-in mid-level save feature.
Also, the remake is good due to redesigned levels (for the better) and a challenging final form for Dracula, not to mention custom soundtrack and boss rush mode (both solo and co-op).

>> No.3952252

>>3952229
PSP version of the PCE game is fine, but it's got a couple of imperfections that don't make it the ideal version to play.

Although it's much much MUCH more cost effective than buying a PCE/TG16 + CD or a duo and then another 150-200 bucks for the game so it's perfectly serviceable, but OP wanted "the preferred experience" and that's gonna be the original disc.

Turbo-CD via original hardware.

>> No.3952258

>>3952252
Yeah now I'm remembering some of the cutscenes have audio sync issues.
In that case, the Wii version is just like the PCE version (240p and all) and doesn't have loading times, technically, Wii is the best version of Rondo.

>> No.3952261

>>3952161
>Dracula X
There better be a romhack that restores playable Maria otherwise I'm not going anywhere near that shit.

>> No.3952262

>>3952252
There's no need to spend $150 on the game since PCE CDs don't have any kind of copy protection. Just burn a disc and go. Of course, the hardware itself is getting pricey these days, so your point still stands.

>> No.3952264

>>3952261
Damn, I remember back when people used to bitch about Maria not being playable on DX.
Now it's almost like it's a good thing, what with all these tryhards on /vr/ trying to find which Castlevania is the hardest, now Rondo is mocked at for having Maria as the "casual easy mode".

>> No.3952283

>>3952258
>Yeah now I'm remembering some of the cutscenes have audio sync issues.

That's because they were originally made for Japanese, and they didn't re-animate them for english...

>> No.3952331

>>3952283
But the cutscenes are in Japanese.
It's just some of them though, most cutscenes work fine.

SNES (remix) > PSP (remake) > TG-CD (original)

>> No.3952349

Translations are so overrated, I played this RAW without knowing a word of Nip and I could figure out the story just fine. Just let me tell you that Dracula has resurrected and took two girls with him as hostages, that's all you need to know.

>> No.3952350

>>3952340
>remix

A remix would imply the same assets with some changes, Dracula X is a complete new game in terms of levels and assets, only Richter's sprite and some of the enemies are taken from Rondo.

>> No.3952361

>>3952340
This is bait.

>> No.3952376

New:
>level design
>background art

Old:
>music
>storyline
>sprites
>controls

Its a remix, my dude.

>> No.3952378

How do you play this as Richter? The game is so much better if you chose the loli.
>muh much harder game
>muh classic physics
Well too bad nobody cares about your videogame accomplishments, nerd. The loli should have been the weaker character anyway, she is smaller and frail. Not my fault Konami decided to make her overpowered

>> No.3952384

>>3952376
>level design
The most important thing
>background art
No, whole level assets, not just backgrounds.

>sprites
A lot of enemies yeah, but many are also redesigned and many bosses are brand new.
>controls
Yes, but something curious is that Dracula X took off the bible sub-weapon, maybe to make the game even more challenging.

>> No.3952392

>>3952378
Maria IS the weaker character, she takes more damage than Rich.

>> No.3952395

That was obviously Nintendo censorship.

>> No.3952408

If that was the case they could have replaced the bible with just a regular book.

At least Richter's subweapons are way more powerful

>> No.3952716

The bible is pretty broken, but Maria's dragon is probably the strongest subweapon in the game, that fucker rapes everything.

Don't forget her stand, which can rape a boss in seconds and doesn't require any ammo.

It uses some of the same assets but the level design and some of the backgrounds even are 100% different.

It's so much more satisfying to beat the game as Richter though. And it's not even that hard, I can't for the life of me beat Castlevana 1 or 3 or even make it to the final level in either, but over a few days of practice I was able to beat this one. Not to mention Richter is extremely agile and flexible compared to the average pre-SoTN castlevania protag.

Basically git gud.

Didn't liked how they redubbed the german speech in the intro for the PSP game. The original voice sounded much more intense and memorable.

They listened to the fans and redubbed SOTN too to make it less "cheesy", but destroyed the charm in the process, so now fans say they prefer the old voices.

Why would you waste time with the shitty dubs when PSP SOTN has subbed original japanese?
