Finally started playing this. I grew up with SNES in the 90's, but never saw the appeal of Metroid at the time. But I've been seeing a lot of people say it's the best game on SNES, so I added it to my backlog. It's actually great and I'm glad I kept an open mind. Just got my third missile expansion after getting morphball bombs

Don't feel bad. My first Metroid game was Prime in 2003. I have yet to play SM myself, though I have beaten the original in both NES and ZM versions.
I'm quite looking forward to it.

I'm actually stuck at the moment in Brinstar. I can't backtrack since i'm blocked by one of those metal doors with the switch on the other side. The platform above me has crumbling blocks

I've never actually played Super Metroid but I love the games I have played in the series

>Loved the original but I got stuck on Brinstar Depths with the Justin Bailey cheat and was only able to beat it with NARPASSWORD, also it was the FDS version

yeah i enjoyed metroid 4 better too. less running around aimlessly and guessing what to do.

i think i prefer more linear games because running around lost isn't fun for me.

The real shame is that Warframe an existing game is basically the perfect foundation for a proper 3D Metroid that isn't trash and would translate nearly everything in the 2D games perfectly, though it could gank the 3D map system from prime. If Nintendo ever wanted to make a good 3D Metroid all they would have to do is play that game and let their mind run wild with the capabilities, but the'd never design it or release it on the PC so the controls would be hamstrung largely. I wish someone would use it as inspiration for doing a proper scifi Metroidvania

welp I'm stuck again.
I'm in Norfair.
I have the high jump boots and the heat suit after beating the boss down there. I've been through the hot area but didn't find much apart from missile expansions, although I can see there are parts that look like they require a grappling hook.
I can't yet open orange doors.
I can't backtrack out of there since I got there by dropping down a long vertical hall.
There's also a room near the elevator with two metal shutter doors that I'm not fast enough to run through.

yeah, I'll go back there. I remember opening a green door in there that seemed to lead to nothing. I also saw another green door high up I couldn't get to
