Post the very first known appearance of some games. Screenshots, videos, even mentions.

I'll start Zelda 64 techdemo, before Ocarina of Time development actually started. I wish I could get a better look at Link, so I could model it on 3ds max.

Accordingly to interviews in The Legend of Zelda - Art & Artifacts, the initial art for the Zelda 64 project was supplied by the same anime studios responsible for the art of the previous games. I believe that's why the very first 3D Link was so close to Zelda 1 and 2 Links.

Nah, the stuff they outsorced to animation studios in the first 4 games was mostly promotional/packaging artwork and illustrations, created *after* the in-game visual style was already in place, not first stages concept art or anything (though they did ask for test pieces when they were beginning work on OoT before they decided to keep everything in-house)

I assume Link looked like earlier Links in those demos because... that's how Link used to look? It was not like today; a striking new visual look to get people's attention was not a priority, as the exhausting pre-release hype information drip was still not an industry standard practice. Radically changing link into a bishonen was a pretty big leap, and it took a person who knew he wouldn't lose his job to take it.

"Homever, when we started work on Ocarina of Time, the workflow we'd been using prior to this was also still in place, so we outsourced the art to the usual animation studio"

Not so much a first appearance but the roots of Final Fantasy 7 began as a SGI tech demo with FF6 characters
