Hi VR! So a bit more than a week ago I posted about the issues I was having connecting my pc to my crt and I got a lot of really helpful responses and first I'd like to thank everyone for the help already. So I was let in on the fact that my primary gpu (gtx 980) was wholly incompatible. So I took all the advice I could and picked up a new card (an AMD Radeon HD 7850) and went through all the steps described by Calamity in this thread here: http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=1052#p1052 .

>> No.3920268

The installation of the drivers go through without a hitch just like in the thread but I begin to run into issues trying to complete the next step in VMMaker like Calamity shows in his thread. I've tried both the generic 15khz crt and arcade standard crt moniter profiles, then I move on to the emulated EDID making sure to uncheck "Extend desktop automatically on device restart" and select the right output analog. Now here is where in his guide, Calamity is able to just enable the emulated EDID and then his standard moniter will lose sync and upon plugging into his crt he has a usable picture. When I get to this step however my moniter does not lose sync but does change to a 640x480 interlaced looking resolution. Trying to plug in to my crt from there still leaves me with a signal not compatible with my tv as depicted in the first screenshot

Lastly to give all the information possible. When I switch back to my standard monitor and use it's OSD to display information about the current signal I get this screenshot here. Which tells me my computer is still only sending a 16khz signal for whichever reason. Any insight would be really appreciated

Thanks I think so too in fact I should just play all my games this way instead of fucking around with it

Seriously though, pop in a game and see how far you can get with the screen like that.

Offhandedly my guess is that you're feeding RGB to a YPbPr composite input.

I guess that's what I'm doing. One of these:https://www.keene.co.uk/syncblaster-cable-scart-to-15-pin-vga-3-metre.html to one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004XSSDPO#Ask

Poor bastard. Only thing that worked for my setup was using CRT Emudriver

>> No.3920515

>>3920452
That's the right transcoder but that cable says it's for sending scart sources to RGB enabled projectors that only have DE-15 inputs (like my Optoma). I'm not 100% positive it works the other way you should check the pins with a multimeter.

>>3920515
Any more information on how to do that would be really appreciated, I was just hoping I'd found a a cable I could buy because other than that all I can find are schematics for making your own VGA to SCART cable and I really don't think I have the resources and know-how. It just seems weird to me though because if the cable was the problem wouldn't I still at least see my regular lcd monitor go out of range and display a less than 16khz signal on the osd like the emudriver install thread describes? Is it likely my moniter somehow accepts and converts the lower frequency resolution or something or is that unheard of?

My money's on that cable not being wired correctly for your particular setup.

I mean I'll do all the research I can on finding another cord to purchase or building one but it's still not adding up to me. Why would my computer monitor not lose sync before I even plug that cord in as part of the equation? Everything I read says my monitor should be going losing sync before I even try to plug in the other cable that you're suspecting is the problem. I'm not ruling out the cable but it definitely seems to me that something is going wrong before that cable even comes into play.

Also, you guys thinking it's the cable. If I try to use the transcoder into the component input on my hd tv and I get a usable display will that help rule that out or would that normally work anyways?

>> No.3921135

Updating: I took the VGA cable from my computer monitor and sent it to the hdtv and then turned on emulated edid and the TV did go out of range but the same scrolling black and white picture comes out on the crt when switched to so it must be the cord and my monitor must have had some way to convert the signal up from earlier which was confusing me. Even when I tried to bring the transcoder into the hdtv it was not even capable of trying to display the signal only detecting that there was something in the component input and nothing else there but no signal.

At this point what do I have to do to get a working VGA to SCART cable without building one does such a thing exist or is this kind of shit really only for the highest echelon of enthusiasts? Please anyone who knows where to find the cable I need make it known, I'd also be more than happy to work things out with anyone on this forum who has one or the tools to make one who might even just be interested in selling one. If my only option is to build a cable myself I'm probably going to put this project on hiatus for the near future

Okay so I've went ahead and bookmarked that but I'm certainly discouraged if adding a whole 2nd converter in to the mix is really my best option. I don't even think I have the space for the clutter that will make and I know I don't have any free power outlets since it's got it's own PSU it needs too lol. I'm sure as hell not giving up when I've got all this shit here but if that's my MOST effective option then I'm probably going to give it a month or two too breathe I'm spending myself broke on converters and cords and GPU's it's a headache

>> No.3921208

Get the pinouts, put your multimeter in continuity testing mode and make sure everything is coming through correctly. Alternately, get a peer reviewed cable. I haven't actually done this project myself yet and when I do I'll probably be using an ipac or a bnc breakout for it so I can't recommend you one but someone in /crt/ definitely could.

I'm aware and I'd ask Calamity these questions myself on his forum if he hadn't closed the forum to registration. Even posted in AVSForums first but nothing. Thankfully people like baggage's gramps and other anons actually have an interest in helping but I can see how you wouldn't understand since it's not shitposting like ur used to doing
