Pretty much nothing, it was damn near perfect. Especially for 1993! Goddamn! 2 or 3 more characters could have been nice. Babalities and Friendships were kinda lame. Reptile being able to do Subzero's slide also lame.

No arcade perfect ports until emulation.

Saturn and psx came close except loading and shitty music, snes was lower res yet some how almost there, genesis version was developed for 3 button in mind.

None were arcade perfect.

The MK II AI is so legendarily fucked up that it could throw you back even when it was under FINISH HIM! state. The developers thought that was just a little too much and removed it in the next version of MK II.

Mortal Kombat AI was made to eat quarters and make people cry. Not to play against. You either exploited the hell out of the AI (Kitana is a favorite for this), or you were going to get OUT FUCKING SKILLED everytime.

Not MK II, but there's the equally fucked up Jade counter in UMK3. If you throw a projectile her way, she does all of these in less than one second:
- run
- activate invincibility move
- pass through your projectile
- combo your ass

She does all of this as the projectile is leaving your hand.

That's any fighting game in single player and why they suck. You just find what it can't handle well and spam it. I used to be able to beat MK2 with just sweeps. No exaggeration. Fighting games single player just suck.

Well I consider input reading cheating. SF will have characters do charge moves without charging them as well though. But yes, MK is particularly lame. Really unless you're practicing inputs there's no reason to waste your time single player in a fighter.

The Saturn version was an abomination that stopped to load when you did a special move. If you allowed Shang Tsung to morph, then the game used half resolution sprites. It also used MIDI music from the PC with the most awful soundfont imaginable, it had worse music than the Genesis.

32x port was okay.
There was no MK2 Windows ver, only a DOS one.

I like the challenge and beating the computer at its own game. MKX in particular has fantastic AI that can put up a fight but plays by the same rules you do. It can be done well but most devs are too lazy to give a damn.

It's like you never even played MK2.

In MK2 the AI has bigger throw range than Zangief in SSF2. They can throw you in the middle of a combo or a special attack. They can throw you from half a screen away. They can throw you while they are frozen by Sub-Zero. They will end up throwing you whenever you do a throw move against them. And if you do an uppercut at any times they are on the ground, they will crouch to dodge it and uppercut you back, all in a single frame.

I don't remember seeing Scorpions AI ever do air throws, though.

Yeah, that's bloody hilariously broken.
Also, UMK3 also had the fucked up throw priorities. You could only land a throw against the first two enemies. Every one after that would end up throwing you, whenever you wanted to do a throw.

The only thing that has a more cheating AI was Virtua Fighter 2. Jeffry could do his atomic power bomb throw on you (it only works on crouching opponents) while you were STANDING.

Completely untrue on both counts. Devs try very hard to make decent AI, it's impossible with current technology. NRS is no exception, I'm very familiar with their games.

Anyways, if you or whoever enjoys playing it knock yourself out. But for my tastes it's a waste of time. MK2 was the first game where I really saw through the AI curtain to all the stupid shit it had to do to try and win and I've found fighting the computer boring ever since. So I only do it now if it's required to unlock shit.
