Because the N64 is the "Nintendo" of "Ocarina of Time" and "Mario 64" so it's the hispster choice for claiming you know two shits about old video games.

They don't even know what a Saturn is. They probably think it's the name of an old Samsung Smartphone.

/v/ prefers the n64 because it has some defacto classics that everyone knows. Not every /v/ poster is /vr/ inclined but they will all know those games while knowing very little of the saturn's output (if any). You also have to remember that 4chan is a largely populated by young American or US influenced people.

As for why /vr/ likes the Saturn more, I don't think they do. By the end of the thread the n64 will probably come out on top, this board is still heavily weighted towards nintendo related threads. Again it's largely US users or the constantly changing pool of light users that are looking for more info on things they've seen on youtube so it has a heavy nintendo bent.

3d Multiplats are all better on PSX, except for:
Exhumed, Quake, Duke3d, maybe Dead or Alive.

2d games are nearly all better on Saturn, except for SOTN which is a mess.

Since the industry was gravitating towards 3d, this meant that most if not all of the multiplats that mattered, looked better on PSX.

Also Saturn has fuckton of slowdown in every fucking game. I can't think of a single game that is more complex than Mahjong, that runs without slowdown or dropped frames on Saturn. Virtua Fighter 2 is perhaps the only one, but that has shitty sound droupouts instead.

Easy Saturn
because the 2D games in the system have aged well.
Another question ok so how does the Saturn EXTRA RAM cart work in terms of hardware. How is it possible that these carts carry additional ram for those Arcade ports. I'm no expert and I tried google but its not giving me any answers. Hell even the RAM pack for the 64. How does those work? you can be as detailed as possible too.

>> No.3917965

>>3917940
N64 uses RDRAM in a unified setup (all of the hardware shares the same ram pool). Due to the nature of RDRAM, you normally have to terminate the bus, but you can also fit another chip in to increase capacity. So it's the same effect as if you'd put another RAM stick in your PC.

Saturn has a ridiculously overcomplicated card slot that features expansion pins for the sound chip, the video chip, most of the separate clocks inside the console, reset commands for all the chips, digital audio and video input, and a 16-bit data connection on the external bus. They did this because they wanted to avoid the difficulties they had when expanding the Mega Drive.
So for the Saturn it is more like that it has a cart slot, on which it can access stuff, if the game wants to. This can be ram, rom, sram, or external hardware data. It doesn't make any of the existing memory pools in the console bigger, it just adds an extra pool that the games can use as storage. This limited how useful it was.

>why is it that the majority of /v/ likes the n64 over the saturn but the majority of /vr/ likes the saturn over the n64? just an interesting observation.

I think that the majority of /vr/ like the N64 over the Saturn, just a couple of loud Saturn supporters trying to overcompensate.

Also because the Saturn was such a disaster in terms of sales there's a large amount of people who've never fucking played the thing. People who've gone out of their way to purchase expensive saturn hardware and software are bound to talk it up. If there was a vote I'm sure more people here would prefer N64, so you can stick your unwarranted "observation" because it's not true.

Considdering that literally 7 out of 10 of the best games of that gen were ps1 either exclusive or originated there, yet all /vr/ shitposters just shill the "le shovelware, kek" talking point to death and pretend that nothing else existed on the platform. Oh, or they generalize like retards about cg this and loading times that.

Sad, when the n64 had as much shovelware by volume, and most of the most popular saturn games qualify, as they were made fast, with little budget and for a quick buck. Oh, and bad ports everywhere on both the saturn amd n64. Moreso that the ps1 even.

I ain't saying the ps1 was the best of the three, beause i enjoy them all a ton. However, the ps1 in no uncertain terms won that gen, and has the most games that keep me comming back.

After all, there's nothing like GT2, metal gear solid, final fantasy viii (yes, 8) or dino crisis 2 on the saturn or n64. Just like theres nothing like nights or panzer dragoon anywhere other than the saturn, and nothing like goldeneye, OoT, mario 64, conquer, or banjo anywhere other than n64 either. N64 had Perfect Dark, Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Zelda
Saturn had a better Resident Evil in my opinion(Liked the controller a whole lot more. Had the joystick saturn controller). I loved the DooM port but cant think of that many original games for the system sadly. If it had more support in America it would have sold so much better.

Saturn is better if you like arcade games because that was Sega's bread and butter.

N64 if you have a lot of friends who like vidya because it has four controller ports as standard.

PSX is a jack-of-all-trades who lacks their weaknesseses but also their strengths.

Some of the first trolling was being very polite and otherwise following forum rules, but baiting another posting in flaming as a response to whatever nonsense you just politely posted.

Sweetieposting is actually somewhat of a resurgence of classical trolling.

N64 has great games but most of which you really gonna play through two or three times at most. Saturn games due to the arcade focus have more longevity.

Anyways, yes, "ps-x" was the code name, much like NU64/Ultra 64. Some magazines kept calling the N64 the "Ultra" for some time after the name was finally changed.

The official way to abbreviate PlayStation is PS. If you want to call it PSX, PS1, PS90s or whatever, it's fine, but don't go around pretending PSX is the right way to call the system.
